Preview: Christie’s New York Top Lots
Christie’s December 14 sale to be held at 20 Rockafeller Plaza in New York includes 424 lots, and the stars of the show in terms of pre-sale estimates are Patek Philippe, Breguet, and Piaget. Three pieces are estimated at $250,000 to $350,000: Patek Philippe references 2499/100 and 1462, and a platinum Breguet ref. 3857. A Piaget ladies Kanthara is estimated at $200,000 – $300,000. Lot 198 is a Patek Philippe ref. 2499/100, manufactured in 1982. This 18K gold perpetual calendar chronograph with moon phases succeeded Patek’s first series-production perpetual calendar, the ref. 1518. Only 349 examples of ref. 2499 were manufactured over four different series. The reference remained in production until 1985. The pre-sale estimate is $250,000 to $350,000.This two-register stainless-steel chronograph, ref. 1463, was manufactured in 1955 and was retailed by Tiffany & Co. New York. Christie’s notes indicate that this watch appears to be the first example of a refer
Inside The Manufacture: A Look At A. Lange & S?hne's Balance Cock Engraving
Did you know that literally every single A. Lange & Söhne timepiece is unique? It's true, and that is because each timepiece that comes out of the Glashütte manufacture features one component (at minimum) that is hand engraved – the balance-cock. 1 OF 4 The engraving of the balance-cock dates back to the early 20th century when Lange was buiding superlative quality "1A" pocketwatches. When the brand relaunched in the early 90s, it just made sense to continue on with one of Lange's greatest traditions. So, within the halls of the Lange manufacture exists a small group of six engravers that individually sculpt the balance cock via a set of specially created tools. Click through for a more detailed look at this craft. 2 OF 4 The average Lange watch receives a floral engraving on the balance-cock, a small piece of metal smaller than a human finger nail. But, because the work is completed by hand by one of six crafstmen,
ROO 44mm Forged Carbon VS Ceramic
I'm deciding between the ROO 44mm Forged Carbon or the Ceramiccan you guys give me some suggestions to the pros and cons and also the differences between these watch also i have seen the Team Alinghi and Grand Prix in Forged Carbon, the edge wears off significantly, straight edges became smooth and looks terrible. is this normal and happens to all carbon forged watches thx for the input
Decisions: 15202, 5146r, Aquanaut, Datograph, Chrono Bleu
Alright gents...I'm hoping I can get some of your guidance as I'm having a hard time deciding on my next move. There are so many watches on my want list but only so much cash to go around (around $60k). I've narrowed it down to 3 choices:1. 5146R and Chronometre Bleu2. 15202, Aquanaut, and Chrono Bleu3. Lange Datograph up/down in rose gold Currently I have a DSSD blue, BLNR, Sub Date, and AP Diver. What direction would you take? Thanks
Dent on lug from spring bar ejection?
I discovered a nice dent on my lug. Not too sure where it came from, but the dent lines up with the lug hole, which means it could've come from a spring bar coming through the front. If this is the case, my question is: can a springbar pop out with so much force that it produces a dent like this?20170217_213100.jpgSent from my SM-G935W8 using Tapatalk
