While at Baselworld 2012, I had an interesting idea. It wasn't totally unique, and I certainly didn't come up with it originally. I did however stumble upon a solution for a huge problem with the watch industry and a great way to solve it. Something that to my knowledge isn't really being done with any seriousness today. It has to do with getting more people to wear and want watches, and how to approach a post need-based watch economy.By post need-based I mean that technically speaking, people no longer must wear watches to tell the time. People most certainly still need to know the time, but there are simply other options (perhaps not as convenient) in addition to a wrist watch that will tell you the time. This wasn't always the case. It used to be that if you wanted to tell the time, you either needed to own a wrist watch, or remain within very close proximity to a clock. When the 2014 new offshores were announced, I was feeling kinda blah about it... I thought it was pretty minimal enhancements and thought I would probably give it a miss. Like many, I was expecting something with a ceramic bezel in the redesigned 42mm, kinda like the special Doha edition (v sweet!!!!)Fast fwd to beginning of April when they were launched. I got to view and try each one on (except for the white diver and new 44's). Same feeling, not impressed. I only thought the new blue dial with orange hands looked kinda sharp and sporty but still didn't really do much for me... It reminded me of the ROC blue and orange that came out a few years back but nothing more. However, little did I know that my subconscious was thinking the opposite. Looking for Input From the Patek Experts
Hey Gang, I'm looking to buy a used Patek (from a Forum member) which is dated 2012 and received service work from Watch Check in the Philippines. I went to the Patek Website and couldnt find them as an authorized Service Center. I did see however they were an Authorized Service Center for IWC, Breitling and Panerai.The Work Order Included a Restore of the following:- Scratched Crystal- Scratched / Dented Case- Scratched Clasp- Replacement of StrapTo the Patek experts on the forum, would you be comfortable purchasing a watch that had what appears to be just a cosmetic restore of the watch from this service center? Also, should I care that the watch was polished?Thanks in Advance!

Is it possible for crystal to be etched? (hard water?)
I just noticed that my newer SD43 crystal appears to be etched, the marks look just like hard water spots on a car. Very disconcerting.- I've already rinsed with water and washed with soap, soft sponge - no difference- I'm 100% sure the spots are there. Under certain angles and different lighting I can't see them, but under my desk lamp they are clearly visible.- Once seen, cannot be unseen.... I sometimes play with different chemicals such as brake parts cleaner, carb cleaner etc. I don't recall getting anything on here but that's likely it. How to get this off? CLR? Hit it with a buffing pad an Dremel? Automotive cutting compound? Nail polish remover?
