Antiquorum’s May Sale Includes Patek 1436, 5016
On May 9 and 10 Antiquorum will auction over 300 watches and clocks at the Grand Hotel Kempinski in Geneva. The highlight of the sale is a Patek Philippe Ref. 1436, stainless steel split-seconds chronograph, pictured below. This piece is one of four known examples of which three survived, and one of only two first generation watches known to exist. This timepiece was produced in 1945 and sold on May 11, 1949. It is the first time ever that this watch will be offered at auction. The pre-sale estimate is SFr. 600,000 to 800,000. Also to be offered is a Patek Philippe Tiffany split-seconds wristwatch produced in 1928 and sold on September 23, 1938. This 18K yellow gold wristwatch features a single-button split-seconds chronograph, vertical 30-minute register, constant seconds, and mobile lugs. The pre-sale estimate is SFr. 800,000 to 1,200,000.Another significant timepiece included in this sale is a Patek Philippe Ref. 5016 P with a unique dial. This watch was originally sold on November
Conversation with AD's (by telephone)
I was calling a few AD's to see if they have a watch I am considering (RG ROC black dial bracelet). The 2 that I called said that they are not offering any discount and that they could cover insured shipping. The 3rd offered a discount, but not enough to be a good deal. I'll admit that I didn't spend too much time building rapport but it is known that they offer better discounts. How much time do you guys spend negotiating, building rapport, etc.Wish people would not want to waste time and just make a good deal. Wire funds and enjoy the weekend. Smh!
Seeing before buying
Hi everyone,I've been trying to compare a 5167 or a 5711. I know the blue 5711 is ridiculously hard to come by and the white 5711 is also quite scarce in stores (but a shorter wait list). The discussion comes up quite frequently about comparing the two and everyone's preferences, but one thing I have been struggling with recently is actually trying to see these in person and finding which looks best on me.I've seen tons of pictures (thanks to everyone on this amazing forum!) and would definitely love to purchase my first Patek, but I have a hard time deciding on one of these watches before actually getting to see and compare them in person and trying them on. I went to my local Patek dealer this weekend and called an out-of-state one I visited a couple of months ago. Neither unfortunately had any of the three in stock. While traveling, I've tried to visit local dealers who always tell me the 5711 is a wait list item that I'll never get to see in stores.Any advice on getting to see a &g
Guidance, 5131
A gold 5131 is my grail. I'm ready to start working on getting one. I intend to keep it until it's handed down.I works for me at retail, but on the secondary market I can't touch it.I know it's an application piece and something I can't just walk in and purchase. So my questions are. How do I go about being considered a viable option when I submit an application? How many watches does one normally have to purchase prior to being accepted for a 5131? Is it completely out of the realm of possibility to be accepted with the 5131 being the first Patek purchase?Generally what do I need to do to put myself in a position to get a 5131 at retail.I'm looking at this as a multi year process for myself. Thank you.
