Halios Tropik B Review
In the world of micro-brand dive watches, originality is often hard to find. Sure, on the pricier end of the scale one can find companies like UTS making unique and reliable divers. On the lower end, however, most boutique brands offer watches that, while certainly affordable and well made, lack a certain creative spark. If not outright homages, many implement tried and true design elements or use off-the-shelf cases, resulting in timepieces that cannibalize one another and already existing popular models. That's where Halios comes in. Founded by Jason Lim, Halios is a brand out of Vancouver that's developed a real following by those in the know in the watch community. That's because Halios is beloved for their original dive watches (remember the "Puck?") developed from the ground up and sold to you at a fraction of the cost. And their watches are limited productions, so once they're gone, they're truly gone.2013 was a big year for Halios, announcing not one, but three models: the Tropi
New arrival in gold and steel
A friend of mine (large public company CEO) has been persuading me for months about the virtues of the Royal Oak. I've had the opportunity to spend some quality time with his in both gold and steel. I wasn't 100% sold on either until we discussed the new two-tone 15400SR. Two-tone tend to be a love/hate thing, but I'm the exception who likes it in some watches and not others.Anyway, after getting together earlier this week, I made the impulsive decision to acquire a RO in steel and rose gold, and was able to get one here just in time for a business trip out to the Bay Area. I'll have a few days to bond with the watch and see how I really feel. For now, here's a pic:The prior owner was gracious enough to get the first minor ding out of the way which allows my OCD a breather until it goes into Clearwater for its first servicements (even if you hate it) welcome. :-)P.S. For those who may ask or later wonder about wrist size, I'm about 7.2.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Diver Bracelet
Hi Guys... I am just loving my new Diver... I know I am going through a Honey Moon period with this watch but It's just beautiful!I am planning to fly down to London and LA next month... and wanted to pick up a bracelet for this watch... Does anyone have any experience with an AP AD or SC in either of these places? Do you know which AD might sell it to me? Thank again....
Speedy Pro Mark II Racing just arrived!
The mailman delivered this really nice racing dial Mark II about an hour ago. Thanks, Adam (achova)!
What if?
Many (albeit not all) of the concerns surrounding the 5270 I've heard lately revolve around the fact that since it is now using an in-house movement, there are overproduction fears. What if they produce the current (3rd) series of the 5270 for 3 years maximum? Would this elevate the watch to the level of the 5970 in a collector's mind?Feedback welcome..
