Hands-On: The 1950s Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar Reference 5516 For Sale At Christie's Nex
I don't know how many times I've admitted this, but I dream of being a vintage Audemars Piguet collector. The watches are so rare, so beautiful, so special, and until recently, completely under the radar. Now they are getting a little more attention – and a great triple calendar chronograph just sold for serious money at Christie's Geneva – but that doesn't mean the world at large has taken notice. And that is why I am writing this article today. A truly world-class watch is coming up for sale next week, and I want to make sure the collecting world at large takes note. It's an Audemars Piguet, from the 1950s, with a full perpetual calendar, two-tone dial, and leap year indicator. It is one of nine ever made, and it just might be the best watch for sale this season. 1 OF 6 Reference 5516 was made in nine examples, six of which feature the moonphase at 6 o'clock. Planet Ocean Liquid metal...?
Been offered a planet ocean liquid metal bnib at 3580 looks good but is it a good buy? I hear it's hard to get hold of and ltd in numbers. Is it a future collectable? Second one I've seen make the shop window and seems like the recent price increase hasn't been put on to it...?
New Omega...
to be released at Basel. Now this is pretty cool! Don't like the 007 though.
Long time sub fan startled by current state of affairs
Hello all,First, I am sure this question has been asked many times before. However, I am hoping it is ok for me to ask it anyway because the current supply demand situation seems to be kind of unique (correct me if I'm wrong).I have been wanting a sub date for many years. I finally am in a position to buy, so I started looking around and Lo and behold I found that the sub happens to be the hottest thing at the moment with no deals to be found. This is my first and possibly only Rolex. I want to get it right and I don't want to get a bad deal just because I'm excited. Used prices are so close right now to new, that I want to just get it new if I can. I like the idea of getting a new one if it's only a bit more expensive than a used one. I have talked to my AD and they can get me one in a couple weeks for around 8800 out the door (I'm in California so I pay sales tax).Question for all you wise enthusiasts: Is it wise for me to buy? I have not followed Rolex trends so I am not sure if thi
