Seiko Astron: World's First Quartz Watch Turns 40
When I was recently in Japan, the Seiko folk made sure we knew all about the Seiko Quartz Astron (ref. 35SQ) watch. For whatever reason, the knowledge that Seiko was the inventor of the world's first quartz movement powered watch has eluded me (until then that is). Coincidentally, this December 2009 is the 40th anniversary of the Seiko Astron quartz watch. I got to check out one of the original Seiko Astron watches. Two of the images here are mine that I took of a Seiko Astron watch back in Japan. The watch itself is a testament to Seiko having help up so well after 40 years. It looked as though it was made no more than 5 years ago. The retro style of the watch is surprisingly durable as the look of the watch seems to meld well with today's popular vintage looks. The 18k gold case itself is tonneau in shape with that distressed-like metal textured look that used to be popular. Then you have a smoothly polished dial and a clean functional face. At the time, the design was pretty new for
Another Modern Classic From Bell & Ross: The Geneva 126 Chronograph Watch
This is the chronograph version of the venerable Bell & Ross Geneva 123, which I discussed here. The pre-BR-01 Bell & Ross is a testament to the design finesse of the French watch firm. Although the Geneva 126 is merely a bi-compax chronograph version of the watch, the look is very different. The beautiful number fonts remain, but with the 126 you have more of them. The Geneva 123 have the 12, 3, and 9, while the Genevea 126 clearly has more numbers displayed. The 126 trades off some of the attractive symmetry of the 123 for a more masculine military look. This watch really is a combination of classic military watch design and old world formality. Size is a conservative 39mm but they wear large given the thin bezel.Inside is an ETA 2894-2 automatic movement with the a chronograph module. This is of the highest grade chronograph enabled movements available, and is visible through the case back. The chronograph pushers are very easy to use, especially without looking on this model
Speedmaster with white dial
In the speedmaster series of Omega, is there have a white dial model? Thanks for fans to tell me about this!
from sweden with love..
Got my bulls eye suveran from sweden yesterday (black/ grey one) .. these where watches made by omega during ww2 for the swedish market only.. really lucky to have 2 of these as the conditon is really quite amazing considering that these watches are over 60 years old! really love these old manual wind 30t2 calibre watches.. dial is quite funky too!
Is now the time to sell a 5711-blue dial?
I see the crazy prices on these. One dealer wants 47K. I am thinking now may be the time to sell. Not lose money. A first for me. Any thoughts.
