SIHH 2015: Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Reversed Tourbillon (Updated with Live Photos and Price)
Cartier has introduced more than 100 new watch references at SIHH 2015. One of the most interesting is the Rotonde de Cartier Reversed Tourbillon, a watch whose unconventional flying tourbillon is displayed on a minimalist, sunburst-guilloch dial with an off-center hours and minutes display. The Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Reversed Tourbillon watch carries on the tradition of guilloch work that has been a hallmark of Cartier products since Pierre Cartier began using the technique in his workshops after his journey to Russia and discovery of Faberg creations. On watch dials, the motif used most often is “radiating” guilloche, with engraved rays from a central point. The dial of this Rotonde de Cartier watch is made of non-rhodium-finished white gold; the effect of the sunray guilloch pattern on the material is to create an eye-pleasing pattern of shiny beams of light.?The dial’s other attraction, of course, is the reversed flying tourbillon and its bridges, with the
My First Grail Watch: Cindy Livingston Of Guess Collection
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after. Today, we're speaking with Cindy Livingston, the woman at the helm of the watch company producing Guess and Gc watches. Along with hearing about her first grail, we learn what she admires when she stops by a watch shop window.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you, and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Cindy Livingston: My name is Cindy Livingston, and I am the President and CEO of Sequel AG, the watch company based in Zug Switzerland who has held the license for Guess and Gc watches for the past 30 years.ABTW: When did your fascination with watches start?Cindy Livingston: My true fascination with watches started when I was merchandising women's accessories along with watches and jewelery for a department store in the USA. We were selling traditional watch brands, and in the early 80's, alon
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Flying Tourbillon Monopusher Chronograph Watch & The Return Of Roger
Roger Dubuis (the brand) has had a very interesting history over the last 15 years or so - and none of what I am referring to has anything to do with their watches. The man Roger Dubuis started it 1995. He was later ousted from his own brand by a guy who I heard sort of force him to sell it. Then the brand underwent a massive lawsuit in the US (which they lost). Then Richemont bought it and decided they would try to bring back Roger Dubuis into the light. Then George Kern was appointed the CEO by the Richemont board to try and make something good of the brand as well as strengthen the movement manufacturing, and now Roger Dubuis himself has been rehired by the brand he started himself a while ago that was going on for so long with his name and not his blessing. Interesting right??? Well I think so. Welcome back Roger.Roger Dubuis won't have a specific title as I understand it. He will work with the new Head of Movement Development, helping with ideas, design, execution, and inspiration
Hands-On: Kari Voutilainen's Unique Platinum GMT-6 And Burgundy Dial Vingt-8
The biggest new feature of the SIHH this year was, of course, the area set aside for presentations by nine independent watchmakers, known as the Carré des Horlogers. Based on word-of-mouth from participants, it seems to have been in general a success, allowing what many independent brands, journalists, and clients have had to do in a very chaotic way in previous years – meeting to see new products and designs in venues offsite – to take place under one roof. Of course, non-Richemont brands have always been a part of the SIHH (Parmigiani Fleurier, Audemars Piguet, and Richard Mille are all examples), but this is the first time such a large number of small-batch makers have participated. Of these, one of the most high touch and low volume is Kari Voutilainen, whose fame among connoisseurs is out of proportion to the very small volume of watches he produces. But there's a reason his work commands the respect it does. 1 OF 12 This is a unique piece in p
