Patek Philippe "Advanced Research" Ref. 5550P Watch Uses Lots of Silicon
Silicon for the win! The material that has had watch brands debating and experimenting is here to stay and Patek Philippe is making sure of that. News from the big guys in Switzerland says that they intend for all Patek Philippe watches in the future to have Silinvar (their type of silicon) parts. A new limited edition watch called the ref. 5550P uses the brand's newest Silinvar component called the GyromaxSi balance wheel. This balance wheel has a new shape that looks less like a wheel and more like an hour glass with inlaid gold added for weight. The ref. 5550P encapsulates the brand's total efforts in Silinvar research to date and has three areas of the movement done in Silinvar. Now, get ready to remember some vocabulary. The three areas of the watch done in Silinvar are the GryomaxSi balance wheel, the Pulsomax escapement (two parts which includes the escapement wheel and anchor in Silinvar), and the Spiromax balance spring. Patek Philippe first began using silicon parts a few year
Automatic problem/rotor problem?
Evening folks Just to share a story of my friend issue who just bought a ROO last week. So he suspected that the watch have an issue. Here is the case: when the watch turn off, no matter how many times he shake to watch, after 1-2 minutes the watch will stop, but then he give a winding about 40 times, the watch can last about 48 hours. Can some expert here give an explanataion why is it like that? Moreover when he wear the watch, if its around 48 hours the watch will stop. It means there is a problem with the movement as normally as long as we wear an automatic watch, after we gave full wound it wont stop until we dont wear it for several days. Need your help to explain this. Thanks
Long time lurker. First time poster
So I've been lurking here a while. Been a Rolex fan as long as I can remember but there is something about that heritage Chrono in rose gold that I cannot get out of my mind. It might be an itch I must scratch. Also have loved that mesh bracelet on the right watch. Afraid it might be a bit blingy for a daily as opposed to the black though. Anyone have either?
Aquanaut strap options
I have recently become interested in the PP brand. I was wondering if there is a croc strap option for the Aquanaut. Or is it easy to put an after market strap on. Maybe a nice black croc. Have not seen an image of one. Thx.
Thoughts on trade-in
I've been wanting to add a 116710LN gmt as my second Rolex. My AD hasn't had one for quite some time, but between trusted sellers here and other members offering to help, sourcing isn't difficult. Well I stopped in my AD today just to check and talk Basel. All they have is the wg blro and the tt 116713. I actually liked the tt more than I thought I would. My wedding band is 18kt yg and they look nice together. On top of that, they offered me more for my z-blue than I paid for it. I'm heavily considering trading in. The z-blue is my first Rolex and I love the gv, but the tt gmt would be my first new Rolex, and I've been wanting the gmt and date function. My concerns are missing the gv and the flashiness of the tt. Now there are so many gmt variants, I can't even remember if they're keeping the old tt or if it was discontinued in lieu of the new rg tt. I don't have to decide tonight, but I will decide tomorrow so wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks in advance!Sent from my iPhone us
