2013 Hong Kong Watch Fair Coming Soon
watches-dealer will return to the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair this September to once again explore the world of watches from a more Eastern perspective. The largest show of its kind, the Hong Kong watch show is an amazing "Timepiece Extravaganza" (their words) that better reflects the broader watch market compared to the mostly high-end demographic that we tend to focus on when covering Baselworld or SIHH.One of the most interesting aspects of the show is being able to understand what technology or material is really becoming popular and mass produced. For example, last year we started to see lots of GPS watches and knew that their dominance over traditional atomic clock radio signal watches was coming. We covered the 2012 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair here. We look forward to seeing what manufacturers are keen on producing for 2013 at the upcoming show. Kid at a Candy Store: AP Private Meeting @ Inside Basel Watch Time Event Chicago
It happened this Tuesday before the Inside Basel Watch Time event here in Chicago. One of my lifetime dreams! A truly private meeting by myself with the head of Audemars Piguet for Latin America. I was like a little kid at a candy/toy store. After an hour and half drooling over all the pieces that I was able to try on, I came out with a few items on my AP wish list. No wonder why I love this brand so much!!! The best part is that all watches were 'stickers-free' so the experience was really awesome!!! The FC Diver is just amazing and I definitely want one. The one that I tried on was serial No. 0002. Just crazy! The new Royal Oak Jumbo is to die for. Not sure which one I like better, the SS or the Gold one. I was also able to try on the Royal Oak Equation of Time plus many other big time grails like the Royal Oak Skeleton Perpetual Calendar, the Millenary 4101, a Tourbillon, etc. I think I also want the ROO RG 44mm, it fit like a glove and it's just a dream. Stopped by the 57th St Boutique today...
I'm NYC on business I took the opportunity to swing by the Audemars Piguet boutique on 57th Street. The staff is very pleasant and I had a chance to spent 30 min with the watch maker showing me around. There are a lot of nice pieces in there that I can talk about but it was game over when I get to see the new 15202, aka Jumbo. At first one is a bit taken back how thin and light it is, which is of course because of the Cal 2121 movement, the thinnest automatic movement in the world with a center rotor. The movement is stunning through the display back. But what really makes this watch stand out is the dial. It is mesmerizing! Personally, I find the micro-tapisserie much more compelling than the regular tapisserie on the 15300/15400 or the mega-tapisserie on the Royal Oak Offshore line. The blue/grey color of the dial as a vintage vibe and I was told is ever so slightly different in each batch. To really finish off the vintage feel the Audemars Piguet name is printed directly on top of t
