Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends July 3, 2015
As you might have guessed from the featured image of this post as well as the image above, I'm a huge fan of A. Lange & S?hne's Datograph. In-house chronograph movements are nothing to shout about these days, but rewind the clock to 16 years ago, and they were rare. In fact, the caliber L951.1 in the first generation Datograph was the first all-new chronograph movement in years. The second generation model presented in 2012 is, to me, much more practical to wear. The power reserve has been significantly increased from a paltry 36 or so hours to a much more reasonable 60 hours. The case is bigger too, at 41mm, but the dial has been nicely filled up with new baton markers and the power reserve indicator at 6 o'clock. And if you think the dial is pretty, brace yourself when you flip it over: the caliber L951.6 is a masterpiece. And new this year is the long awaited rose gold model with a black dial, and I think it looks absolutely super. The A. Lange & S?hne Datograph aside, we are
Introducing: The Baume & Mercier Five Minute Repeater Pocket Watch And Promesse Jade Timepiece
This is a very special year for Baume & Mercier – the firm is celebrating its 185th anniversary. (The company reckons its history from 1830, when brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume opened a watch dealership under the name, "Frères Baume," in Switzerland. The name Mercier is that of Paul Mercier, who with William Baume incorportated the company uner the name Baume & Mericer in Geneva, in 1918.) In order to mark the occasion, Baume & Mercier has chosen to introduce, at Watches & Wonders in Hong Kong, two new timepieces. One, an homage to Asian and Chinese culture, is the new Jade Promesse watch; the other is a very interesting new five minute repeater pocket watch – the Clifton 1830 – in red gold. 1 OF 3 The five minute repeater is a type of chiming complication which actually pre-dates the minute repeater (however, watches that strike the time "in passing" rather than on demand, as a repeater does, a
2 Pateks or one ALS?
I have decided to move both of my AP 44's as i am just not feeling them anymore. The RG still sings to me, but not enough to keep. They were never forever watches for me as they are very big and i cant see myself with them when i'm old. So, if im going to get rid of them eventually, now is as good of time as any. The choices in consideration though are more classic and timeless IMO. Basically i can see myself actually wearing them when i'm an old man. The AP offshores, not so much and they will never be that to me.Since i'm not buying any new watches currently (adding to the collection), this doesnt count as im just replacing watches What would you do? Im in the Patek forum so i know it will probably be weighted to the Patek choices but try to think objectively. The Zeitwerk also has an outside chance of making the cut, but my wife hates it so its not officially in consideration at the moment. Plus, it would probably split the ALS vote if i included it as a third option. ALS resa
Pawn Shop find
Every now and then I stop in at a pawn shop that is on my way home from work. I bought a Ref 1550 from there a couple months back that came with original bracelet, inner and outer box and booklets for $1000. Also found a ref. 1500 for $1200. Today though, I found this. Not much of a sports watch guy though. Nobody was there that could remove the bracelet for a look at the reference (although price tag says it's from 1987) or to crack the back. Looks like maybe the clasp is a bit messed up from he previous owner trying to adjust the length. I am considering trying to get this thing for a good price if I can.
Rolex GMT Master II 116710LN
Hi everone, I am a first time Rolex Shopper and in doubt between choosing the Submariner Dated (116610LN) or the GMT Master II (116710LN). Sound like the GMT looks bigger on your wrist because of the size of the number on the bezel. I need your professionsal opinion about the model that I have to choose.
