Bring a Loupe: Some Quick Thoughts On The Collectibilty of (Special) F.P. Journe Watches, As Demonst
F.P. Journe is one of the few modern watch manufactures that many serious collectors have any love for. Their watches are thoughtful, beautiful, wearable, and rare. Don't believe me, read this. That said, Journe watches have never exactly been auction house darlings – with modern pieces typically selling for a fraction of their current retail prices. That, of course, is no way to measure the success of a watch, but resale value is something that many collectors simply can't ignore – if you put money into something, you want to know you can get money out of it. This week, however, a few F.P. Journe pieces sold at auction well above what one might expect, and we are beginning to see that like special pieces from Lange, special Journe watches can also do quite well on the public market. A Unique Tourbillon Souverain Sells For 650,000 CHF 1 OF 7 The first watch we will examine sold Tuesday night in a charity auction benefiting Action Innocence. This

Hi all,My non-AD is charging $100 for an appraisal for my new RO purchase. Insurance requests it. What do you make of this request? My other dealer in Boston would always drop one in the mail no questions asked and no charge. Thanks for the feedback -TSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Help with manual wind
Picked up my first manual wind watch today with Omega's 3201 caliber (I know the 3xxx movements are contested movments), and I was just wondering if anybody could help me out with the winding operation, as this is the first full manual wind watch i've owned. The winding instructions say to turn the crown until it stops. I wound the watch, and after about 10 turns it didn't stop, the best way i can describe it is it went from smooth turning to feeling like I was twisting rubber--the crown would still turn though offering up slightly more resistance, but when I let the crown go it would turn backwards a little.. Again, as if I were twisting a rubber band. Does this mean the watch is fully wound? or should I keep going until it literally stops? My first thought was that it was fully wound when I felt the increased tension and rubbery play of the crown. But after one full day of wear I expected to be able to give it at least a few more turns with little resistance, but the crown would s
Hand finishing
Same question I had on Watchtech but no replies yet , you may wiil.Is it possible to identify the hand finishing vs machine made polish on watchcases ?basically the final polishing done by hand at all manufacturers or just in the high end segment?May you can tell what to look for to judge properly ,in my book hand finishig allows tiny misperfections however most high end pieces i ve handled seems to be perfect except under 10x magnification i ve seen small how to call misalignment i wouldn t call those a flaws rather the human touch, but it was mostly on the case ,on the movement even under high magnification for me hard to find the difference.Cld you pls comment, thanks
Is it a good idea to keep the case stickers on?
Since I got my watch back from a full Rolex Service last week... (ref. my thread about a pawnbroker jeweller falsely asserting that my watch was scratched on the glass)...It came back refurbished like new, complete with stickers on the back and sides. I haven't peeled off the side stickers as I quite like the stripes... But is it a good idea to keep them on to protect against new scratches? Before the service, I was totally nonchalant and care-free about wearing it and it had its share of light scratches and dings, but now that Rolex has made it new again, weirdly I feel a bit nervous to wear it...
