Van Cleef & Arpels Watches At SIHH 2009 Video
One of my favorite watch makers from a novelty standpoint is Van Cleef & Arpels. There is always a little bit of magic in their watches. In the video, the current philosophy behind the brand's watches is made very clear. Essentially they admit that people need watches less today (than in the past) to tell the time, as we can rely on phones and computers. However, luxury watches are still valued for what they call "whimsical complications." To this degree, art becomes as important as function in a watch - and the degree of creativity imbued in their line up is intriguing. The first watch discussed in the video is the Van Cleef & Arpels Day in Paris watch, that I wrote about here on Luxist. A fascinating piece with a 24 hour rotating disc as the face with tells the story of a woman's day in Paris (duh). Then you have the Gardens collection which has the same idea of a rotating disc, but instead has it revolve once a?? year. I also wrote about this watch on Luxist here. The paintin
One of the most striking models is the Alain Silberstein
The Alain Silberstein Ballon Bleu watch model was introduced in 2007. This stunning watch has a round watch face, punctuated with a blue sapphire cabochon on the crown of some models. The blue sword-shaped watch hands and Roman numerals highlight this sophisticated watch. One of the most striking models is the Alain Silberstein Ballon Bleu Flying Tourbillon which is designed so the watch movement will counter the effects of gravity.

Introducing myself.....
Hello to everyone on the AP forum here on TRF.Some of you may recognize the handle from other forums some may not. I am glad I found this forum and I am enjoying looking around. I look forward to participating and sharing my passion for the brand we all love, and most of all getting to know everyone! How about my first wrist shot for the board!
Why couldn't the 5205R be a little bigger?
I have never been so conflicted about a watch after buying it - love dial layout and moon phase. But it wears so small. Here next to my 39mm 1815 Chrono. Even the 38mm 5396 has a bigger dial than the 40mm 5205 (but don't like the layout as much). Have a good offer to sell if I want to move on. Hate to give up a beauty but not sure I can get past the size on my 8 wrist. Advice?
