SIHH Preview: Cartier Astrorgulateur
Cartier’s in-house genius Carole Forestier takes a highly original approach to combating the effects of gravity on timekeeping. In a nutshell – quoting Cartier – “the escapement, the oscillator and the pendular seconds have been positioned on the rotor…”. Warning: trying to visualize an escapement mounted on a rotor may cause pain in the visual cortex. Let’s see how it was done…The Astrorgulateur movement – Caliber 9800 MC – has been five years in the making and it is the object of four patent applications. The movement has been designed, developed, produced and assembled entirely within the Cartier Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds.Watchmakers have long studied means to compensate for the effects of gravity on the balance spring; the tourbillon is perhaps the best-known mechanical countermeasure. The tourbillon carriage revolves on its own axis, typically in one minute, averaging out the errors and so canceling variations in
Breitling Experts -Your advice & knowledge, PLEASE!!
I mostly hang out in the Rolex posts as the wife and I have 7 of their watches, but we are also Breitling owners. A few years ago, I purchased a Breitling Cockpit with a TT steel bracelet. It has been trouble-free watch and keeps great time and is well made.. I bought my Cockpit BNIB for a great price -45% off retail. I quite agree with the posters in other threads that it is a big error to buy a Breitling at retail. You take a big hit after the door closes.Breitling is also being slammed by some for using cheap ETA sourced movements, although they have recently started their own manufacture. Rolex, of course, has all their in-house movements tested by COSC standards, but so does Breitling who even provides the COSC certificate enclosed with their watches.I have a chance to purchase a BNIB Breitling for Bentley Mark V1 for a 60% discount. I have always been attracted to the Breitling Bentley line, as well as the actual vechicles they represent. I believe the watch should be termed NOS,
Changing ownership of my preowned Patek to my name
Hi gang. Just bought a three month old Nautilus 5711 blue dial from a very credible seller. By the way I just can't stop looking at the watch! It's a thing of beauty no doubt. I registered the watch on the Patek website by providing the necessary information (from previous owner's paperwork) and the reply said it would take up to 6 weeks to verify. Does anyone know what process they are going through and is it possible to be turned down for some reason? It just seems to easy to enter a serial number under your name for a change of ownership. Any reason to be paranoid here? Thank you.
Eyes On The Prize....
....... maintained selective focus and clearly happy.
Its time again...
Lately, have been alternating between d-blue and BB Bronze (16710 has been feeling too small). Needed something to help scratch the more traditional black dial diver but with better “wrist presence” itch
