SIHH 2014 Preview: 3 New Chronographs From Baume & Mercier Clifton Collection
Next year’s SIHH watch fair in Geneva is still nearly two months away, but the watch brands exhibiting there have already begun to offer sneak previews of their new timepieces. The first to do so is Baume & Mercier, which has released info and photos of three new chronographs in its recently introduced Clifton collection. The first chronograph model in the 1950s-inspired Clifton collection (which thus far has included only a three-hand model with small seconds and a “Complete Calendar” model with moon-phase) has a 43-mm case and a self-winding mechanical movement from ETA. The case has polished and satin finishes and has a scratch-resistant anti-glare crystal and an exhibition caseback secured by four screws. It is water-resistant to 50 meters. The dial features a sun satin finish and either blued steel or golden hands. The Arabic numerals and indices are either silver-colored (in the model with blued hands) or gold-colored (in the two models with golden hands). The

First: First Post. First Patek. 5524G
I am a long-time collector with varied tastes and interests. I own only one Rolex (Explorer II Polar 42mm), and up until today, no Patek. I focused on some independents, some custom pieces, IWC, AP, Omega, Germans and others. Basically, I carefully collect what hits that nerve!I was smitten with the 5524G when it was introduced. I decided then, that I would own one, but would hold off and commemorate the sale of my business with this piece one day. At that moment, there was no specific timetable. Pleased to report the business transaction was finalized very recently...so...5524G here I come!I was able to find one (NIB) at an appropriate price with little drama. I picked it up today and am very pleased. The watch has been reviewed, discussed, photographed, by so many collectors and enthusiasts that I won't do so here. But I will share my first impressions, hours old now.The size, weight and wrist presence is a perfect match for my taste. I wear mostly sport/pilot/dive watches and am com
Patek 5146 vs 5327
I normally don't post much, but a relative recently asked me about a few different Patek models, and so I wanted to ask you guys for your thoughts. Here are the 3 models he's considering:5146/1G-001 (bracelet model)5146R-0015327G-001So I know it's hard to predict what will happen in the future, but he's wanting to know which one would be more collectible (holds better value, harder to find) in the future if he wants to pass it down to one of his kids/grandkids. He'll probably wear the watch only occasionally. I don't know much about Pateks, but my initial thought is that the 5146 (any metal) has been around for a long time and will be easy to find in the future. The 5327 is a new model, has a beautiful blue dial, but not sure if its production is limited. I also realize the 5327 is double the price of the 5146. Any thoughts about these models? Thanks,Brian
