Interesting outing
I'm not sure which forum to post this in given the range of brands involved, but thought I'd try the AP forum, as this is where I spend most of my time. Last night I used the excuse of a trip to my tailor to get out of the office to do a quick circuit of some of the grey dealers and ADs in Tsim Sha Tsui and encountered quite a nice selection of watches. The Rolex ADs had nothing of interest, but I did come across the Sea-dweller 43 - for an absurd premium over MSRP (in line with what these are going for here, though) but it was good to try it on. And I must say that I found it a bit disappointing - it seemed much smaller than I'd been expecting (not helped by putting it on after taking off my AP 44!). I liked it...didn't love it - but removing any sense of urgency to acquire this is good for my bank balance. At the same dealer; I also had the chance to try on the AP 44 summer edition - while I wouldn't wear this enough to justify the purchase, it is a really striking pieceOn a lark, I
Vintage Omega pieces?
Hi,I'm looking to purchase my father, whom was born in 1963, an automatic watch from 1963. I don't want to spend more than $500, if possible. Have any of you seen anything out there for sale lately? If no Omega, any other popular manufacturers during that era? Thanks in advance!-Wes
Waiting for Daytona-C get option on Patek 5711
A few months ago I was enjoying my friends watch collection, mostly Patek Philippe with a few Rolex thrown in for good measure. While admiring his Daytona-Cs (a white and black face) my eye caught his blue dial PP 5711/1A - what an amazing watch especially in real life. Now I understand the passion for this particular model - incredible dial, timeless design, cool crystal back, elegant simplicity and of course highest quality.Next morning, we are at the AD and I'm adding my name to the list for the 5711 even though it seems the waiting list can compete admirably with the Daytona which I'd been patiently waiting for. Oh well, you never know, perhaps we'll be debating new POTUS candidates before we see any action on these. Then surprise, a call from the AD this weekend with option to take a 5711 that just came in. What a beauty. My first PP. What election?
My Wife Said What????
I have been Patek shopping trying on different models without my wife. Last Monday we had to take my son to Cincinnati so he could fly back to Florida. We live in Indy and with my dad's death, we were only able to get him a flight back on Allegiant with 4 hours notice. I found the address of a Patek dealer and wanted to try on different models while my wife was shopping at Ikea and other stores. She said she would go with me to my surprise. She has tolerated my watch hobby so far and I was concerned when she asked prices of various pieces. Roll ahead to last night after church, she said she wanted to get me my first Patek for Christmas! Enough said........
YM on the block for GS
Yep, I'm going to put my new 16623 on the Ebay block to purchase one of these babies. I am in total love and lust. I have admired Grand Seikos for years and I have a great appreciation for the craftsmanship that goes into them. When Seiko created this re-creation of the original 1960 GS I fell in love. Will post pictures once I acquire it.
