Hands-On: The Zenith Heritage Pilot Caf Racer, A Pilots Watch Inspired By A Biking Subculture
The Heritage Pilot Café Racer is the latest entry in Zenith’s famed collection of pilot watches, and on paper it’s a great addition with its own spin on the genre. But is the connection between 1960s café racing culture and high-flying timekeeping instruments a little too far fetched? And does it matter if it is? 1 OF 4 The new Café Racer has all the redeeming qualities of a classic pilot’s watch, i.e. a lot of oversized features, from its case and Arabic numerals to its onion crown and faceted hands. But this particular pilot's watch is inspired by a wingless machine, ridden not flown, on long ribbons of concrete. The Café Racer was a hybrid motorcycle, and the symbol of a timid movement led by Britain’s thrill-seeking, blue-jean-wearing youth in the '60s. Gathering at cafés – the kind with a liquor license and a jukebox filled with good tunes – they’d race lightweight bikes such as the T
Looked at the Speedmaster 9300...
and there were two things that I noticed. First, when I pulled the crown out to adjust the time, I saw that the seconds hand in the left sub-dial would jump and move about 10 seconds forward as I turned the crown and didn't quite return to its original position. Then I put the minute hand exactly at the 12 o'clock position and saw that the hour hand did not line up exactly with any of the hour markers. It was only slightly off, but this was especially noticeable when I put the time to 12 o'clock where the hour hand seemed one minute ahead I where it should have been. The watch was new in the display case, but I didn't ask the sales lady about it as this was at a jewelry store and she started off our conversation by saying that she didn't know all that much about watches. Has anyone else noticed this in the 9300 Speedie? I'm just starting to learn about watches and automatic movements, but it seems to me that a watch in this price range shouldn't have this problem. Thanks.
Last watch for 2011
Hi. Just two days till I pick up my Christmas present and my final watch for this year. An Aqua Terra Chronograph in Red Gold and SS on Brown Allogator. Its been an amazing year... watch wish. I've learnt so much about Omega and changed direction as far as my collection is concerned (Only Omega now) and I am really looking forward to 2012 and what that might bring. Hope you all have a great Christmas and achieve your watch collecting goals next year.
Help Identifying Vintage Omega
Hi Guys,I need a little help identifying the specifics on this watch. A AD looked at it and states that it was a cal.565, ref 166-02,with a serial number indicating a 1968 vintage. I have done searches on the net but cannot come up with the same dial. also anyone have any idea a ballpark value? any help is appreciated.
5131R & 5575G Photoshoot
Recently had a get together over coffee with a fellow Patek owner. Took a few pictures of his 5131R and 5575G alongside my own 5131R.Quite astounding how different the 5131R's are from each other. Mine is a 2015 model and his a 2016 version so the city rings differ.Aside from the actual words and the huge variation in the cloisonn enamel itself there are also quite a few other differences - care to play spot the differences?
