A Record-Breaking Patek Philippe Highlights Top 5 Watches from Only Watch 2013
The fifth edition of the biennial “Only Watch” auction took place over the weekend at the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco. When the final hammer fell, the auction of unique timepieces had raised 5,066,000 euros for research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and a Patek Philippe Ref. 5004T fetched the highest price ever paid for a modern wristwatch at auction. The Patek Philippe watch, the first and only one of its reference with a titanium case, was the subject of fierce bidding among the gathered collectors and philanthropists, who hailed from all corners of the globe. Its final sale price was an astonishing, and record-breaking 2,950,000 euros. Reference 5004, produced between 1995 and 2011 as part of Patek’s Grand Complications collection, is a manual-wind chronograph containing Caliber CHR 27-70 Q, a Nouvelle Lmania base movement produced exclusively for Patek, to which Patek’s watchmakers added a split-seconds mechanism and a perpetual calendar. the “T̵
Event Recap: Harry Winston Celebrates The Ocean Sport Collection At Sunset Beach
The folks over at Harry Winston invited us to a really great event last Friday night at Sunset beach on Shelter Island. The cocktails and dinner (which was served on just an incredible 80 foot long table) was to celebrate the Ocean Sport collection - a casual, summery line of watches perfect for the beachside setting. The event was hosted by Winston CEO Frdric de Narp, and was attended by a whole bevy of beautiful people (us notwithstanding, of course), including Russell Simmons, Hillary Rhoda, and Andr Saraiva, who tagged the step and repeat in front all the guests.? There was also a live performance by the Virgins and just a fantastic mix of interesting people. Oh, and of course, some pretty nice watches, too.Click through for some pics of the scene and check out the collection here. 2 OF 17 3 OF 17 4 OF 17 5 OF 17 6 OF 17 7 OF 17 8 OF 17 9 OF 17 10 OF 17 11 OF 17 12 OF 17 13 OF 17 14 OF 17
New AP RO 41mm 15400
Was in London today and saw these in Bond street. Had SS, YG on bracelet and strap and a SS chrono version. Also had a 37mm one too. Now I may be biased having bought a 15300 a few months back but I'm not really a fan of the new 41mm models. To me they just look to big and flat. The bezel is thin in comparison to the size of the dial where as on the 15300 it's just about perfect. The 37mm looks tiny in the flesh too. One thing I do actually like are the double baton dials...seems to sharpen up the look a bit.Has anyone else seen these in the shops yet?
Bit of a let down.
Sadly no 233 for me but another strap. Oh well I can dream maybe if I win the lottery
