Watches NEWS
Grey market in the USA, on thin ice (legally speaking)
As reported in an earlier thread here (post 28/Jon)And from other websites...Watchtimefaegresupremecourt.govOmega Wins! This has been long, drawn out legal battle that Omega has finally won. The Supreme Court has sided with the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, giving foreign importers more power (legally) on how their goods are sold in the United States. This will give Swiss manufatures (Rolex, TAG, etc) more power in controlling their distribution plans for the US. Also, it will give foreign importers more power to sue those that seek to import/sell their goods into the States without their consent.
Thoughts on legitimacy
Hey all, new to Patek and have a chance to buy a used one. Is there an online source to check legimacy or can I post pics here for opinions? Thanks
The amount of hand finishing with the 5167...
Whether it's Patek, AP, IWC or VC, they often release really awesome ad/videos where we typically see the manufacture highlighting their craftsmanship and human touch to the creation of their watches... However, these brands only ever highlight this with super high end complication pieces vs the entry level pieces like a 5167...With that said, I decided to write Patek to inquire on how much hand finishing and love is put into a basic model like the Aquanaut.. I received a rather prompt response and figured I would share it with the rest of you in case you were curious!A lot ask how can Patek charge so much for a 3-hander, or such a simple model? ... Well, hand finishing as outlined below... This type of hands on work is being done in Switzerland by highly trained professionals who are actually paid a decent wage vs a machine or cheap labour in China..Makes me appreciate my Patek even more See below:Dear Sir, We thank you very much for your interest in our products. Please note that
PP 5296G vs. 5396G
Ok mates I've finally narrowed it down to these two choices. Any enabling is appreciated. The 5296 appeals due to its size and simplicity. The dial looks great and I don't really have a need for a hidden case back. I think it would compliment my 5167 nicely even though it's the same movement. The 5396 appeals due to complications - although I don't have much use for any except the date and maybe the moon phase. The watch is somewhat chunky and obviously thicker than the 5296 which was somewhat of a turnoff. Also, the 5396 seems more dressy than the other. I could easily wear a shirt and shorts with the 5296 but would be harder to pull off with the 5396. Both bezels are prone to scratches also. Finally, I'm on the fence about the prong buckle with the 5296 vs. the fold over clasp with the 5396. Both are nice but the fold over would prevent the watch from being dropped. Any advice appreciated.
