Sony FES Watch Re-Introduces You To E-Ink
E-Ink screen based watches seemed to be a big deal a few years ago, but they have recently become less popular for some odd reason. Is that going to change? Maybe. It turns out that Japan's Sony has been working on a secret e-ink watch under a skunks works company called Fashion Entertainments (FES) that is currently being crowd-funded (again) here on the Japanese site Makuake. Seiko seemed to begin the e-ink watch craze in 2007 when they introduced the very interesting and very expensive Seiko Spectrum - a bracelet-style watch with an e-ink screen totally wrapping around it.E-ink later found popularity in other more expensive Seiko watches such as EPD Active Matrix collection, as well as in less expensive models from brands such as Phosphor.? While news of the Sony FES e-ink watch has been around for a few months as a concept under the "TAKT PROJECT," what is new today is that Sony has announced it is behind the upcoming timepiece whose crowd-funding campaign is just about over (for t
Maurice de Mauriac Moon Chronograph Watch
A particularly attractive line from Maurice de Mauriac of Zurich is this Moon Chronograph watch collection. It comes in many different versions (see here), but is a pretty clever take on use of a Valjoux 7751 automatic movement. Seen here is the top of the line piece in solid pink gold, but the diversely customizable collection is offered in various case sizes, in various materials, with various dials.See my full article on the Maurice de Mauriac Moon Chronograph watch at Haute Living here.
Thinking of getting my first AP.. 15400?
Im really loving the 15400 silver dial. i thought it would look big on my wrist but i tried it out and think it fits nicely. Im 6'4 220...Dealer quoted me at $12,800. How does it look?
Z-33 opinions
I stopped in at the Omega Boutique in Roseville California this evening and saw a really neat, futuristic looking piece in the window. Being a huge fan of sport watches and owning only divers, I thought I'd wander in to try it on....it turned out to be the Z-33, a titanium cased, battery powered chrono.I loved the style and feel, but the price surprised me a bit: $5,900! What do you guys think of an asking price that high for quartz? Is there any justification other than for the price?
rolex for 50th
So many years ago, 2000, I got a DateJust (Im not actually sure if its 34/36 but its one of those) with jubilee bracelet champagne face and roman numerals. This year will be my 50th and everyone is asking what to do.. I'd rather they put the money together towards something I can keep with me like a watch.Thing is... which?Back then I chose the datejust because it was to me the classic rolex. Nowadays I wonder if a submariner 116610ln would've been a more classic choice. Certainly I'd rather a 40mm than a smaller one.So I asked a few ADs about getting a 116610ln for november and they pretty much laughed.I've been on all the lists in the north west uk since last summer and not one call back.Whilst appreciating this is personal taste.... any suggestions for perhaps easier to get hold of models? My feel for the 116610ln was that it was an easier every day wear than the datejust whilst being a classic. What I don't want is something that looks flashy and wonderful the day I get it but a fe
