Close-Up: Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe
At Baselworld 2013, two iconic sport watches the Rolex Daytona and TAG Heuer Carrera celebrated their 50th birthdays with new models, while another historic watch brand, one with “50” in its name, celebrated its 60th. Blancpain’s influential Fifty Fathoms divers’ watch, now an entire collection, went back to the basics of its 1953 creation with the release of the vintage-inspired Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe. The first Fifty Fathoms watch named for the British measurement corresponding to approximately 91 meters, believed at the time to be the maximum depth to which a diver could descend was the brainchild of former Blancpain CEO Jean-Jacques Fiechter, who took the reins of the long-established Swiss brand in 1950. Fiechter, an avid diver, was determined to develop a functional instrument that he could use while pursuing his hobby, and in 1953, his efforts bore fruit. Bond Seamaster 300
So I know there have been a lot of discussions here about this watch.I bought one and I love it. Barely any nods to bond and as one guy noted, if you take off the nato and use another, there is nothing at all that shows a reference to 007.All that said, that is not the point of the thread. A comment about snoopy on the Rolex side made me think about LE editions really being LE and what Omega is currently doing. So I started looking for this one. And I could only find one available....It was 15k. Wth.Now, Omega has been really good lately about stamping out grays and discounts. If that is the case, their LE watches really will be worth a lot, I would imagine.Anyone else out there able to find a Bond 300 at list? Or even a used one under list?
Went to my CT Omega AD today . . .
No, no new watch this time, BUT I just thought I'd share a fantastic AD experience I've had today. As some of you who live in the state of Connecticut may know, there is a VERY limited amount of Omega AD's in the state (something like 2 or 3 total). Today I visited Lenox Jewelers in Fairfield, CT. I was VERY impressed by the knowledge at the salesperson I spoke with (Glen). They treated me VERY well (even gave me an Omega Collection booklet, listing all the current Omega watch models !!). Besides Omega (they had a very nice selection, the Speedy Moon watch, two quartz SMP's (one black, the other blue), auto Seamasters, PO's, PO Chrono's, etc.), but they also had a very nice selection of Rolex, and Breitling as well. I guess my point of all this, is if anyone is in the CT area, definitely check these guys out ! They also have thier own in-house watchmaker as well ! (Instead of sending in to Rolex / Omega for service, they do 90% of the work right in the AD ! ). Anyway, just thought that
