Eyeing the Dots: The Red Dot Award-Winning Watches of 2015
The Red Dot Awards are international prizes given annually for design excellence in myriad products, from eyeglasses to cars to household appliances. The 2015 winners in the watch category have been announced. (This is the first year that the Essen, Germany-based Red Dot organization separated watches and jewelry into two different categories for judging.)There were two top winners, each earning the title Best of the Best. One was the most famous, most highly publicized, most vigorously hyped watch in history: the Apple Watch. No need to describe it here. The other was made by a company nearly no one outside the watch world has ever heard of: MB&F, or Max Bu?sser & Friends. Its Best of the Best watch was the Horological Machine No. 6 Space Pirate. The watch has five domes: two show the time and two are for, as MB&F describes it, twin sphered turbines that spin horizontally, automatically regulating the winding system in case of excessive speed to reduce wear and tear.
Hands-On: With The Bulgari Octo Maserati, A Limited Edition Column-Wheel Chronograph With Lacquer And Champlev Enamel Dial
Usually when big brands present co-branded watches, whether with fictional crime-fighting superheroes or prominent aviation firms, there tends to be a what is perhaps a fair amount?of eye-rolling on the part of watch enthusiasts. In essence, these co-branding exercises tend to be much more about quick marketing, buoyed by lots and lots of legal paperwork. I don't think that the Bulgari Octo Maserati is necessarily an exception to this rule, but there is undoubtedly something to say about the understated way that this old Italian brand continues its partnership?with, well, another old Italian brand C Maserati C to present a?limited edition timepiece in?celebration of their shared anniversaries in 2014. Plus, the use of a manufacture movement?and two old-world finishing techniques on the dial add a lot more substance to the package. 2 OF 8 A benchmark of Bulgari's watchmaking division, the Octo collection is known for its Art?Deco-influenced angular case design, seen here

Incoming BLNR... but still have to wait!
I love dual time watches. They are a great tool for me where I can check different time zones easily. The Casio works awesome for that. But once you get hooked on to automatic/mechanical watches, there is no looking back. Got the SS SkyD, but something was missing. It just didn't seem right for me! So moved on from it.The GMT Master would have been a better choice, given you can track 3 time zone at once. The GMT LN was really nice, but it didn't sing to me. Finding the BLNR seemed more challenging. The one I got to try was already spoken for. Scouting every AD in every country I visited. Finally, I emailed the AD I got my TT Daytona from, about how much I wanted the BLNR. He put in a special order for me. Less than a week later got the call at 3 am(last night, I am 12 hours ahead of US). Even the AD was surprised that they got the BLNR for me so fast. So stoked Can't wait for it. Have to wait 2 weeks before I will be flying back to stateside. Eagerly counting the days down! Building a
