To Switzerland For SIHH and GTE 2010
Maybe a surprise to you, but this is going to be my first trip to Switzerland. Today I embark on a (frustratingly long) flight to Geneva for two important shows. First is the highly exclusive SIHH 2010, put on indirectly by the Richemont Group to celebrate mostly its brands. This gala style event is apparently very high-class, and of course, as always, "by invitation only." I do consider myself lucky having be asking to attend. There I will mingle and see new for 2010 releases of many brands, just a few of which are Audemars Piguet (not part of Richemont), A. Lange & Sohne, Cartier, Panerai, Vacheron Constantin, Greubel Forsey (also not part of Richemont I understand), Van Cleef & Arpels, Richard Mille (not part of Richemont), IWC, and many more! There is also the high-end independent watch maker show known as the Geneva Time Exhibition, that I will be attending. Another load of great watch makers will be here including, but not limited to, Alain Silberstein, Linde Werdelin, HD3
Glycine Airman Watch iPhone App
Is this Apple-horology? Glycine is the first luxury watch brand to make an iPhone app, but this execution of the concept is perfect. For those interested in the novelty, or who cannot afford the fine timepiece, they can get the next best thing, which is this clever app for the popular iPhone. The app is available in the Apple App store (not sure about the price or if it free). The best part is that it from Glycine themselves. The application is pretty cool. You can see the front and rear of the watch with a click of the button. The specific watch is the Glycine Airman 17.?? On the rear of the watch you'll see the rotor for the automatic movement that will actually move with the watch (using the built in accelerometer in the iPhone). Functions include everything on the real watch, and a slider is used to set the other timezone (as the main time is likely synced with the phone's clock). You can also use the app as a clock when the iPhone is in it's dock. Just a really cool app giving you
PO 8500 on Isofrane
Just bought a 20mm isofrane strap from a member here on the forums and I must say I'm impressed. I was always if the mindset that $100 is way too much for a rubber strap, but I must say the quality of the strap is outstanding. The rubber is thick yet incredibly soft and pliable on the wrist, very comfortable. The RS buckle is forged stainless steel and super thick, looks and feels like a super high quality strap should. I cant reccomend this strap more, here are some pics!!
My Grandfather's Omega
Thought I share a picture of my grandfather's Omega. Watch was given to my grandfather by his company for his long years of service and was his daily beater. He handed it down to me last year and by then the watch crystal was badly scratched, the minute hand was loose and the movement was in a rather bad shape from lack of service.Sent it back to Bienne and after a 6 month long wait I'm rather pleased with the result
some frustration with buying new rolexes
so i'm starting to get a little frustrated with rolex as it seems all of the new watches i want to buy i can't actually buy. at least at the retail price. namely, the new daytona (white or black) and the ss pepsi gmt that is coming out. it seems you have to have a relationship with a rolex dealer to get on their preferred waiting list for one of these hot watches. last week i called around a few rolex dealers locally here in los angeles and even out of town to see if i could get on a waiting list for the new ss pepsi. universally they indicated they were giving preferential treatment to their established customers. so basically i have to buy a watch i don't actually want from them to be able to get a watch that i do want? the irony is i own 4 rolexes and a tudor. it's just most of those are vintage and the one more modern one was a gift.i just wanted to vent a little. i imagine there are probably others out there who are experiencing the same frustrations i am.
