On the Mend
The Swiss watch industry has not recovered from the Great Recession of 2009. But Baselworld showed that it is recuperating. In Switzerland's watchmaking region, in the weeks before the mid-March opening of the annual Baselworld watch and jewelry fair, people were calling the 2010 show le salon des tous les dsespoir C the exhibition of the desperate. Surprisingly strong retail watch sales in December, which buoyed spirits at the SIHH exhibition in Geneva in January, were not enough to cure what ails the Swiss watch industry. As Credit Suisse noted in a comprehensive survey of the Swiss economy in January, The watchmaking industry is currently in its most severe crisis since the traumatic watchmaking crisis of the 1970s. Swiss watch exports fell a gut-wrenching 22.3 percent in 2009.The Great Recession hit watchmaking harder than any other industry in Switzerland, measured by the unemployment rate, according to Credit Suisse. Bring a Loupe: An Untouched Omega Speedmaster, An Unusual Breitling, And Other Interesting Finds (In
This week, you followed all the exciting SIHH novelties live from Geneva; today, Bring A Loupe returns with some really gorgeous vintage watches – or vintage-inspired, in the case of my favorite Grand Seiko. You will notably discover how a Speedmaster looked when it was sold in 1971, and admire a nicely preserved Movado. I have also found an intriguing bullhead watch from Breitling, and a not-so-great medical chronograph from Universal Geneve. This is your Bring A Loupe for January 22, 2016. An Omega Speedmaster Reference 145.022, NOS From 1971 1 OF 14 Finding an untouched example is a recurrent fantasy for watch collectors – probably not as frequent as a time-travel machine to stock up on vintage references, but not far off. Here, this Omega Speedmaster reference 145.022 follows this time-capsule logic: it was purchased in the UK back in 1971 and left in the box since, to the point that the bracelet links are imprinted on the watch holder. As you would
recommendation for colt auto service !
recommendations for Breitling service ?? i have a local AD but was wondering if there is a less expensive option for a service . i got myself one and gave my bother a colt auto back in 2002 as a gift and in 2004 i had to have a new crown and tube put in his and just last week he said nothing happens when he pulls out the crown to set time , it just spins and no hands move . not sure if it will wind in the wind position or not ,but obviously needs to be opened up so a service is in order. i had a crystal put in mine a month ago and it was $300 at the AD So i am scared to hear what a full service will cost ! this watch was only 1550.00 new in 02 !

Any DD(36/40/41) fans out here?
Everyone in the Rolex forum seems to be sided towards the sport models, and for the right reasons they are amazing. To add some diversity, are there many DD owners/lovers out there? What kind of DD do you have and how much do you love it? Any fans that are waiting for a Basel 2018 release of something DD related?
