Switzerland Mourns Its Watch Messiah
Switzerland has responded to the sudden death of Swatch Group Chairman Nicolas G. Hayek on June 28 with a rare outpouring of grief, praise, and appreciation. Hayek, 82, was born in Beirut, Lebanon, but grew up in Switzerland and spent his entire professional life there. Hayek has been a prominent public figure in the country for four decades and one of the country's most famous and, ultimately, beloved figures. He founded a consulting company, Hayek Engineering Inc., in Zurich in 1965 and quickly became Switzerland's most important consultant, the Mr. Fixit that both industry and the Swiss government called on to develop strategies to fix seemingly unfixable problems. Mr. Fixit became Mr. Swatch in the 1980s when the Swiss banks called on him to develop a plan to rescue the struggling Swiss watch industry. The watch industry was dominated in those days by two giant groups, ASUAG and SSIH, both of which were hemorrhaging red ink, surviving on bank bailouts. Hayek submitted a detailed reo
New Magrette Chronographs: The Moana Pacific Chrono PVD and the Regattare Chrono
Magrette just announced the release of two chronographs to their line of watches. If you are unfamiliar with the brand, I recommend checking out Blake's review of the Magrette Regattare 2011 for a primer. But basically, they are a New Zealand based watch company that makes a mix of cushion-bodied watches ranging in price from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Their new chronograph models continue the sport and racing aesthetic of their watches, add in an interesting movement, and manage to maintain an attractive price point. The two models are the Moana Pacific Chronograph PVD and the Regattare Chronograph. They are very similar watches, but have some distinct aesthetic differences. Both are built on the same 44mm cushion body, but the Moana has a black PVD treatment, while the Regattare is stainless. They have very similar dials, the primary difference being that the Regattare has a Tachymeter index on the outer edge, while the Moana has a minute index. Both utilize the styling
Question on ROO movement
So I noticed something strange with my watch the day I got it. I posted in another thread about it, but I'm not sure if this is normal or not. When the watch is completely drained of power, I literally have to shake it maybe 5-10 times back and forth before the second hand starts moving. Whereas on my omega seamaster for example, if I tap that watch, the slight movement of the rotor is enough to get it running. First I thought I had an issue with the power reserve, but I tested it, and it pretty much lasted 50 hours. Even with me running the chrono for about 20-30 minutes 3x a day. I called the new york boutique and they told me it's a misconception that automatic watches get charged from movement of the rotor. They said that is only to maintain the charge, and that to actually fully charge it, requires winding the crown. Is this actually the case? I don't recall having this issue with my 44mm ceramic, albeit I didn't really inspect it like my ROO. So I'm wondering if anyone who has a

Shades of blue -5711
Some pictures for your enjoyment. Lots of comments and posts about the blue tones of the 5711. The images were taken straight from the camera, no editing. The only difference was the angle and the lighting. Pretty clear how the dial can transform from grey to blue almost magically.
