With the watch world, we've got no end of sites, personal blogs, and forums to rely on. But sometimes you just want to have a face-to-face chat about watches - and that's where the Commonwealth Crew comes in.At least, that is, if you are in the Chicago area. For those not familiar, that started out with a couple of guys (Dr. Jeffrey Jacques and Adam Craniotes) getting together to talk watches.That then turned into a weekly gathering that has seen many people showing up, some amazing pictures of watches out on Instagram, and even some brand participation here and there (the July Chicago meeting saw CT Scuderia sending in some samples). CX Swiss Military Hurricane Limited Edition Watch - Exclusive Announcement
This new limited edition watch from Charmex's CX Swiss Military Watch is the Hurricane, and is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain! For a neutral country, Switzerland has a lot of "military" stuff, and likes to commemorate battles. Why did I just realize how ironic that was? So, German failure in 1940 has given this Swiss company the ability to make a cool watch. If only they new how much defeat meant back then...Swiss Military wants the Hurricane to be the new benchmark in modern aviation watches. What does that mean? Not totally sure. I don't think aviation watches can have a bench mark with so many different types out there, but this is certainly a nice piece. My only problem with it are the dinky hands, but it isn't any less legible than most Breitling pilot watches. Quintessentially British brand Bremont has a new boutique just off London's Mount Street, which just opened in July 2012. They invited us over to take a look and share a drink with the team and a few collectors. The shop fits the brand perfectly, and here's a look at what we saw.?The first thing you notice when you walk in the front door is a vintage motorcycle. It's the real deal, not a prop - there's a drip pan actually catching oil sitting underneath the thing. The whole boutique is like this - instead of aviation, diving, and motorsports inspired decorations, they've brought in real pieces to fill the store. A floodlight, and ejector seats, propellers, and a few other sizable hunks of wood and metal are peppered around the shop floor.
