Hands-On: The Ultra-Rare Panerai Bronze 1000 Meter Prototype, Coming Up At Christie's New York This Week
One of the most unusual watches we’ve seen in a while is this bronze prototype – rated to 1000 meters’ water resistance – made by Officine Panerai in the mid-1980s, as part of a project to develop dive watches for the Diver Corps of the Italian Navy; the watch is going up for auction this week from Christie’s. It’s a pretty rare bird, but for our money what really takes it to the next level is that it’s a fantastic example of how utilitarian design can, when pushed far enough, transcend itself and produce something really exciting aesthetically, which is fundamentally what the appeal of Panerai is all about. 1 OF 4 Before getting into aesthetics, just from the standpoint of objective rarity and historical importance, it’s a pretty remarkable piece and would probably attract a great deal of attention. AP ROO Diver vs AP ROO Volcano?
Hi guys,I'm looking for a good match to the Orange Lamborghini :)I've been a long time fan of Volcano, and also it has more orange tone in the dial and has orange-stitches on the strap. But for some reason, AP Diver looking more modern to me. Very similar pricings, so no argue on that.Which one would you pick and why?Thank you!Salih
Best value manual wind chronograph?
So, recently I have become interested in manual wind chronographs. I think a watch of this type might eventually become a realistic grail. I am planning to have around $50,000 in the watch fund given a couple of years of saving. I really enjoy manual wind watches when I've owned them and miss all the attention they need to stay ticking away . A chronograph / timing bezel + date are also my favourite complications. I also find power reserve and pulsometer useful to a lesser extent (work in a hospital). One of the watches I have been reading about is the Patek 5070 & 5170 models. Priced at around $80,000 they are quite beautiful but expensive. I have been researching other watch brands and stumbled upon the Lange 1815 chrono for around $50,000...this is a bit closer to something I can realistically afford in the next few years. The Lange Datograph seems to have everything I need but it is SO EXPENSIVE . Watches like the platinum Daytona also become a tempting at this price range (alt
