7000 Fake Rolexes Steamrolled in Philadelphia
U.S. Customs authorities oversaw the destruction of about 7000 counterfeit Rolex watches at a contractor’s site in Philadelphia. The fakes met their fate under a multi-ton double-drum steamroller, which ran over the watches about 10 times. Customs officials staged the destruction to highlight law enforcement’s role in protecting intellectual property rights. The watches were seized from Binh Cam Tran who is serving six years in federal prison after being convicted of trafficking in counterfeit goods, conspiracy, and nine counts of money laundering. Binh was also ordered to pay Rolex USA $2,273,166 in restitution.Authorities say Binh fabricated hundreds of thousands of fake Rolex watches in his home near Philadelphia. Officials seized about 24,000 counterfeit watches, and enough parts to create 1 million more.Photo: Steve Sapp – U.S. Customs and Border Protection
ToykoFlash Kisai Intoxicated Watch With Breathalyzer
If you're even remotely familiar with TokyoFlash, you're aware that their design studio turns out some rather interesting pieces, with all manner of twists on what we'd call the "classic" digital readout. Today, they've jumped in with a watch that's ready to tell you when it's time to let someone else drive home. It is the Kisai Intoxicated, and it has a functioning breathalyzer incorporated into the design. Unlike the hoax Casio Breathalyzer that turned out to be a fake, this is the drunken deal. How is it that both of these came out in the same week?Yes, that's right - the Kisai Intoxicated contains a breathalyzer to give you a sense of what your blood alcohol content (BAC) is . The tube, such as it is, appears over on the right-hand side of the case, and you have to unscrew a crown to access it. In all likelihood you'll need to remove the watch to use it. To use this function, you uncap it and press the alcohol button (yup, that's what they called it) and wait for the sensor to warm
Rolex Timepiece Sale @ Fashion Vault Ends Soon
eBay's Fashion Vault is holding a dedicated high-end watch sale called the "Luxury Timepiece Event" which is going on now for a few more days. It features mostly (but not all) Rolex watches. The Fashion Vault is eBay's answer to semi-private sales for discounted high-end goods (mostly fashion stuff, of course). They work with their trusted retailer partners to schedule these sales events from time to time. Being part of the Fashion Vault membership informs you about when new events begin and also offers other useful promotions, but anyone can buy/bid on the items in the sale. By the way, joining the Fashion Vault is free can be done here.Ending in about four days, buyers have over 100 vintage and pre-owned watches to bid on in the current Luxury Timepiece Event. Most of these are Rolex watches for both men and women. I understand that it is being supplied by BeckerTime (based in Texas). The sales includes both auctions to bid on and "Buy It Now" pieces. Rolex watch prices are going to
Omega Cons quartz chrono d/d
I have a Constellation quartz day/date chronometer (this has a larger case than the non-chrono). This is the watch with the day and date displayed by 2 circular dials within the main dial. I can't get the day and date both in phase. If I get the date to switch over at midnight, the day is 180 degrees out of phase. In fact, with the date changing at noon, the day changes at about 7 pm. Is there a quick-set feature for the day that I am missing? On the first stop of the crown, the date changes when rotating the crown cc, but the opposite direction of rotation does nothing.
Thoughts on the 5711?
I've admired this watch from afar.Any views (or pics) from owners would be much appreciated.I'm under the impression that in the U.K. there is a waitlist of some time so I called an AD and asked to go on the list for a blue dial. The lady I spoke to said that Patek work slightly differently to Rolex and generally they find out in February what they are likely to get in that year. Can anyone confirm if that is correct?I've bought various watches off the AD but not at that store so don't know anyone there. However the owner of the company supplied me their first white dial (hence why I'd like blue) 116500 so I'd like to think I'm in with a good chance. I'll be speaking to him in a few weeks as he's invited me to a Rolex event.
