Laco Watch Company - A Brand Highlight with a Family Perspective
Sometime around 1992, when I was in the seventh grade, my father presented me with the gift of a new watch. I had started in a new school, entering into a new phase of adolescence, pressed with the task of making new friends and fitting in. The watch was nothing extravagant, a simple Victorinox Swiss Army watch, grey plastic case with the classic white dial, luminous hands, enameled red bezel and a canvas strap with a leather buckle. Despite its quotidian standard, it was mine, and receiving it felt somewhat like a rite of passage, like the old-timey schoolboy who wears trousers for the first time, at last too mature for knee-socks and britches. It was also a considerable step up from the rubber Casio I had been wearing, with the sallow, miniature incandescent lightbulb inside the 80's had ended, after all.A few modern Laco’s that pay tribute to their pastMy father has always been a man of subdued taste, with a preference for blue jeans weathered by shop oil, white t-shirts, go
Photo Report: Tiffany & Co. Boutique Opening In Chicago
Last Tuesday, HODINKEE and Tiffany & Co. hosted a get-together at Tiffany's boutique in Chicago's Magnificent Mile district, to inaugurate a new feature at the company's Michigan Avenue location – and a new feature for Tiffany boutiques as well. The Michigan Ave. store is, according to Tiffany, the very first to feature a separate, in-store boutique for Tiffany's CT60 Collection. 1 OF 12 The CT60 is named for Tiffany founder Charles Lewis Tiffany, and the designs of the watches are inspired by a very famous Tiffany wristwatch made by Tiffany for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and delivered in 1945. Check out our coverage of Tiffany's CT60 collection here, and our exclusive video coverage, right here. 2 OF 12 Thanks to Tiffany & Co. for a great evening, and to all our HODINKEE friends who joined us! 3 OF 12 4 OF 12 5 OF 12 6 OF 12 7 OF 12 8 OF 12 9 OF 12 10 OF 12 11
PP calatrava... legit?
I stumbled upon a vintage calatrava the other day on a local auction site. I don't know much about the Calatrava models, but apart from the fancy lugs, it still looks a bit odd. It's as if the style of the dial doesn't match the bubble back case. And the dial looks refurbished. Moreover, did Patek Philippe ever have a gold stamp on the case back? Nevermind the text on the pics. :)I'd appreciate your opinion. Thanks!
Couple of new ones in
I was torn between a gold sub (16618) and a classic all gold day date, so I decided I would get both.I got both pieces recently, really enjoying them thus far, they seem to be getting the most wrist time lately
First Rolex and First Post!
I've been lurking this forum for SEVERAL years but never really participated in any discussions since I was young, broke and in college. I remember reading JJ's and everyone else's posts and admiring everyone's passion about these watches; it made me feel at ease that I wasn't the only one obsessed with something most people would consider a status symbol. This forum has been a valuable resource for me through out the years and the sense of community is something you rarely see elsewhere among internet strangers. Watches have always been the one thing that always stood out to me, and I'm sure most of you feel the same way, so I won't bother trying to explain it. I've been lusting for a Submariner for over 10 years. I love the simplicity, ruggedness and it's iconic design. Earlier this year, I received a huge promotion and moved into a new position in my company into IT. This was one of those life changing moves where I felt all my hard work paid off finally. I like to think I'm
