Three Things to Know About the Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour
The ornate, double-dialed Grandmaster Chime dominated coverage of Patek Philippe's 175th anniversary, which the brand marked last year. It is an amazing timepiece that makes a big statement. The watch we look at today is its counterpoint. With one dial and two hands, it appears to be the paradigm of simplicity, but it's not.The Patek Philippe Chiming Jump Hour is one of the timepieces Patek Philippe created to celebrate its 175th anniversary. Bearing Reference 5275P-001, it will be produced in a limited edition of 175 pieces, priced at SFr. 310,000. As the name indicates, this watch offers a jumping hour display with minutes and small seconds, and it strikes a single chime at the top of each hour. Let's take a look at why this watch is much more than meets the eye.Patek’s Ref. 5275 Chiming Jump Hour is far more complicated than it looks.1. Complexity and RarityThe old adage about not judging a book by its cover was written for the Chiming Jump Hour. If you don't think a watch tha
Back To The Basics With German Nomos Watches
On goes the stream of German watches that adorn these pages. I simply cannot cease mentioning the bounty of impressive watches coming out of German. Nomos is one of Germany's more established and recognizable watches. They are built in the Glashutte (Glashuette) region of Germany, but should not be confused with other watches which display the "Glashutte" name, which is merely a region. Thus, Glashutte Original, and Muhle Glashutte are different watches. Each Nomos watch has a similar look, and most each model is a hand-wound manually operated mechanical movement. Wonderfully enough, Nomos produces it's own movements which is places in most watches. This is incredible given the average price of Nomos watches are between $1,500 and $2,500. To some, the fact that some Nomos Watches are hand-wound is a detriment. Yes, you do have to spend the time winding the watches each day, but the watches are very thin. Further, you get a sapphire case back window in which you can view the movement on
Omega PO 8500 Keeping perfect time 3 years later
Just wanted to share a pic of 45.5 black/black PO. I didn't like the watch when I first bought it but have really grown to like a lot. The thing I love most about the watch is that after almost 3 years of wearing constantly and having to rewind it maybe 4-6 times, it literally keeps perfect time from the start. I can't even say it is a quarter or half second off because after all this time it is still within a 30 second window of the time on my cell phone. To me, it makes it all that more valuable just because I have never owned a watch that is that spot on. I really don't think I could rid of it even if offered a premium. I know Rolex gets all the love, but I hear people being totally happy with +1 or -2 a day and mine is considerably more accurate. Anyone else have the success out of their 8500 movement in any of the models?Just to note, I have an approx. 7ish wrist and I think this size wears fine on me if anyone is thinking about obtaining the bigger version for themselves.p
