Controlled Chaos: Harry Winston’s Opus XI
For a couple of seconds every hour, the dial looks like a mess, but then all is made clear. Meet the Harry Winston Opus XI. Click here to read WatchTime writer Martina Richter’s in-depth report on the watch for our July-August issue, along with a video of how its ultra-complicated movement works. The circles, spins and flips of carnival rides were what inspired Denis Giguet in his design of the Opus XI, unveiled last year as part of Harry Winston's Opus series featuring offbeat watches conceived by various independent watchmakers. Every hour, on the hour, in the span of 2 or 3 seconds, the hour display C a system comprised of a multitude of wheels, pinions, arbors, bearings and tiles C disintegrates into utter chaos and then returns to order for the remainder of the hour. This chaos originates from a completely normal watch movement with manual winding, a 48-hour power reserve, and a frequency of 21,600 vph. The movement has a very large balance, which is visible in a cylindrical
AP and Las Vegas
Does anyone know what is going on with AP in LV? the only dealer now is the store in the lobby of the Venetian (store in forum shops closed), and that store is pretty poorly stocked. Seems like they are letting the brand wither and die in LV, or perhaps clearing the way for a boutique? Compared to almost every other brand AP seems to be MIA in LV. Thoughts?
Incoming! My "blue blazer"...
It is said the cornerstone of a gentleman's closet is his blue blazer. I've come to realize that the Patek 5711/1a is the equivalent for my stable. It is simple, elegant, versatile, and classic. All these recent incomings, polls, and stunning pictures of the 5711 pushed me over the edge. TRF strikes again! My AD came through again - a BNIB 5711 is now home with me. Here are a few wrist pics. Better ones to follow. Thanks for looking!
Any 5550P owners on TRF?
Hi all, I am currently saving towards a 5970G (I prefer the dial over the 5970P's black. Though I would much rather have a platinum to match the 3970P in the box, I just can't do the dial.) And the 5970J and 5970R don't really peak my love for PP perpetual chronos in white metal. This being said I was curious if anyone out there had a 5550P because, though it would delay a 5970G, the size, shape and thickness (or lack there of) really appeal to me and I loved the 5140P when I spent time with it (but don't care for the blue dial..though I love me some white/silver dials with blue straps..)Anywho if there are any 5550P owners out there if you could share your experience, photos are a must, and even perhaps a little video (because there are none). Thanks much! ''
Panerai replacement strap??
I am an absolute newbie to Panerai after owning and selling 5 Rolex watches. However today I bought a Panerail Radiomir black seal 183.However I feel that the tan 26mm / 26mm strap is too wide for my wrist. Is it possible to fit say a 24 mm strap to the watch. I know it will leave the wire lu8g a little more exposed , but that would be ok if it fits. Can anybody give me som eadvise on this . As I said I am a complete newbie to Panerai. thanks Knoffie
