Sotheby’s Geneva Sale Brings $8.7 Million
Sotheby's May 15 Geneva sale presented pieces representing five centuries of watchmaking, from 1580 to the present day. The top price was realized by a very rare Patek Philippe ref. 2499 which fetched $815,637, and by one of the most exclusive examples of a stainless steel Rolex Daytona Paul Newman with inverted lines, which brought $233,150. All totaled, the sale yielded $8,753,568 including buyers’ premiums. The top-selling lot, number 185, was a yellow gold Patek Philippe chronograph wristwatch with perpetual calendar, moon phases and tachometer scale. First sold on December 18, 1962, it sold within the pre-sale estimate. The Paul Newman Daytona, lot 280, is an extremely rare example with inverted lines and an unusual signature on the dial featuring Oyster on the third line after Rolex and Cosmograph . This piece, which dates to approximately 1967, was accompanied by an original presentation case and guarantee.Among the various vintage Daytona models of the Rolex section,
Help with a retail price ?
Can anyone tell me the retail price on an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak chronograph 26320or oo d088cr 01 ?
Nice!
Thank god AP offers this 37 mm RO. As much as I love the blue dials, the larger 39 - 41 mm models are just too much for my wrist, size wise. This will have to do. Of course, if they bring this out in blue, I really am going to be in trouble . . .
Surprising Friday incoming...
I put my name down for this a while back and the call on Thursday afternoon took me a little by surprise. Still, I wasn't going to let that get in the way so in I went today to pick it up.As always my AD rocked it and provided the touch paper for the evening - a bottle of decent champs and, even more awesomely, a NOS Patek branded Graf Von Faber Castel pen which is gorgeous.
Am I crazy to sell?
After a long search for a new 114060 in the UK - and frustration with the random rubbish ADs were telling me about wait lists - I finally gave up and bought a new one while on holiday in Cologne in Dec 2017. Even then only one AD in the city had one in stock and they were reluctant to sell it to me. Sadly with the poor exchange rate I paid the EURO tax and effectively bought over UK retail.Cut to today, and I fear I'm going to have to sell it as **IF** I've not been fibbed to I'm getting close to the top of the wait list for a BLNR locally and will need to somehow pay for it **OR** I quite fancy a BB inhouse instead, something I can wear every day without worrying too much about it.I was offered 5100-5300 from a well know watch purchasing company. Of course I would refuse to sell unless they go with 5300, but even at that prie am I crazy to sell at that? Is it worth holding onto it?What do people think?Apologies for the indecision. This is my most expensive watch, and I really pus
