Watch Making; The Industry Of The Niche Markets And Boutique Manufactures
You might be wondering what Voltron has to do with watch making. Well, nothing actually, though I did think this segment of Voltron forming was cool. It also helps me illustrate a point about the watch industry, and how a good watch is really made up from the efforts of several entities working together. When you see a new watch that you like. You pick it up and may think to yourself, "they really make a nice watch." This would be the logical thing to say, but a more accurate statement a lot of the time would be, "they assemble a really nice watch." And sometimes not even that. Don't kid yourself into thinking that most small watch makers and brands (both large and small) are able to make and design everything themselves. You already know that for the most part, watch movements are all sourced, and more often than not, the components that make up your watch come from many places.None of this is necessarily a bad thing, and small watch makers are often proud of where they get their parts
Jerky / Jumpy Second Hands & Chrono on ROO 42mm?
Hi everyone need some advice. Got myself my first 42mm ROO (Volcano) and wondering if its normal for the second hands 12 to be a little bit jumpy / jerky? Absolutely no problem with my power reserve and the watch keeps accurate time even after 3 days of not winding it. However, was staring at my watch today and notice the second hand is a little bit jerky. Like there are tiny gaps between the sweep. When i start my Chrono, it moves in the same momentom as the second hand, where the sec hands jerk, the chrono does the same. I was wonder if its absolutely normal or if there is something sinister happening to my movement. Secondly, on my wrist i can hear my rotor sound. Is that normal too? Thanks for the kind advice.
Breitling Heritage Superocean Chrono
As some of you guys know, I work for an AD in VA and NC. Just wanted to let you know that I just got the new Breitling Chrono Superocean Heritage. I know a lot of people have been interested in this watch from Basel '08. There is no name on it right now.Looks just like it but on the Ocean Racer blue rubber strap. The picture is also missing push pieces (got it from japanese Breitling site)I'll try posting things like this when and if we get something 'exciting' in. Don't worry, we also carry Rolex, Cartier, Tag, Patek, Panerai, Jaeger, there will be some of that too. PM me with any questions. ThanksK
Do you want to see a wrist shot from PJ?
Hoping to solve one of this forums great mysteries. What does PJ actually own.
Patek 5990 vs WG/Black Face Sky Dweller on Bracelet
Contemplating purchasing one of the above. I've tried on the Sky Dweller but haven't been able to handle the 5990 in person. How does the 5990 wear compared to the Sky Dweller? Is the 5990's case taller than the Sky Dweller's (Patek's website conveniently leaves out the 5990's height)? How much thicker is the 5990 than the 5980?For those that have handled both, would you agree the GMT function easier to read on the Sky Dweller?Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
