Hamilton Seaview Automatic Diver Watch
What is different about this Hamilton Seaview Automatic Diver watch? I thought about this question for a little while before writing anything down. I know I have seen the nautical almost art deco themed font used for the numbering before. The font is sort of an amalgamation of everything ocean-worthy and futuristic from 1920 -1970. Gently shaded, the large applied number totally make the watch. Without them it would be just another passable for forgettable Hamilton watch. The watch is pretty big too at 46mm wide, and the relatively small numbers on the rotating diver's bezel don't help the large wrist footprint. But that is OK, you want a nice looking watch like this to standout. While it is has been hit and miss with me in regard to new Hamilton watches as of late, the volume sales leader for Swatch Group continues to push out a few good designs each year.? I'd like to think that this is one of them. The case is PVD steel, but not all of it black. The bezel and face are however dark c
AP modular chronograph
When will AP make an in house chronograph that is not modular chronograph ?Also are other AP movement from AP or are they from other manufacturer ?
Went to my CT Omega AD today . . .
No, no new watch this time, BUT I just thought I'd share a fantastic AD experience I've had today. As some of you who live in the state of Connecticut may know, there is a VERY limited amount of Omega AD's in the state (something like 2 or 3 total). Today I visited Lenox Jewelers in Fairfield, CT. I was VERY impressed by the knowledge at the salesperson I spoke with (Glen). They treated me VERY well (even gave me an Omega Collection booklet, listing all the current Omega watch models !!). Besides Omega (they had a very nice selection, the Speedy Moon watch, two quartz SMP's (one black, the other blue), auto Seamasters, PO's, PO Chrono's, etc.), but they also had a very nice selection of Rolex, and Breitling as well. I guess my point of all this, is if anyone is in the CT area, definitely check these guys out ! They also have thier own in-house watchmaker as well ! (Instead of sending in to Rolex / Omega for service, they do 90% of the work right in the AD ! ). Anyway, just thought that
So what is next?
I repressed my Panerai obsession to long. At one point I had four and went down to two, now back to 3 thinking about 4.233, 424, 449, 249, 372 (if I had the wrist). I kinda want a date, but all the date models are autos and thick (i.e. 388). I like them thinner. I know the older 424 had a date, but Cali and date doesn't catch my eye.
Considering entry level Rolex as work beater
I have a dirty physical job and currently wear a nondescript plastic quartz watch while at work as part of my regular three watch rotation - when I get home I swap for a steel AP, and I use a Fifty Fathoms for outdoor activities, fishing, hiking, etc. Before long I would like to upgrade my work piece and Rolex is at the top of my list, however it would need to have a reasonably bulletproof shock and vibration resistant movement. I absolutely love the Milgauss but the lack of a date window is a deal breaker for me. I like the modern Air King, but again it doesn't have a date function. I guess that leaves the Explorer II but for some reason it just doesn't speak to me. Are there any choices I'm overlooking?
