IWC Launches Special Edition Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Ocean Racer
The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the most demanding sporting events in the world. IWC celebrates its role as the Official Timekeeper with the launch of the new Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph Ocean Racer Special Edition. The Volvo Ocean Race is an around-the-world yacht race held every three years. The current race began this month in Alicante, Spain. Over the next nine months, the crews will battle it out on four oceans taking them to five continents, and they will cover a total of 38,739 nautical miles, or nearly 45,000 statute miles. The longest leg stretches almost 7,800 statute miles from Auckland, New Zealand to Itajai, Brazil. While crossing the Southern Ocean, the yachts will face waves up to 100 feet in height and wind speeds reaching 70 miles per hour C conditions that make this one of sailing's toughest challenges. The race will finish up in Gothenburg, Sweden in June, 2015.The IWC-partner Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing team in action. This contest marks the second time IWC ha
Vacheron Constantin Mtiers dArt Marc Chagall Paris Opera House Watch
Nice watch, but you can't buy it. No one can. Vacheron Constantin paid a lot of money to make this watch, and they are keeping it for themselves. I guess they enjoy it too much to part with it? Maybe. More likely, the special March Chagall ceiling watch will be on permanent exhibition, traveling around to show off VC's stuff. For the last few years, since 2007, Vacheron Constantin has held a partnership with the l'Opera de Paris (Paris Opera House), and is here making an additional claim on that relationship by reproducing the famous Marc Chagall ceiling from the opera house on a watch dial.I first wrote about this piece here where I was quickly able to decipher what Vacheron Constantin was up to. It was easy to tell that VC wanted to reproduce the ceiling on a watch dial in enamel. You have to realize that the 200-meter-wide ceiling needed to be hand replicated on a 31mm wide watch dial. The ceiling is quite the epitome of Chagall's style and was completed in 1964. It took Swiss ename
Another Japan Only Spring Drive Movement Watch Line: The Seiko Galante Models
"How momentous this chemistry between you and me;" " Before the brilliant day changes to just one day in my life;" "Move on silently. Walk down towards the place each must go." What does these statements mean? I have no idea, but these statements are part of Seiko's Galante watch marketing materials. Shoddily translated Japanese to English is an amusing element of our American love for Japanese culture, but we can look beyond the silly phrase to the products underneath.Seiko likes to separate their products into lines and model families. The Galante is just one of these many lines, and is a totally upmarket line from the Japanese watch maker. In fact, the Galante lines are only sold at select Seiko "Master Shops" of which there are only a handful in Japan. Of course there are also some online sales. The Galante line embodies the Seiko Spring Drive movement which is excellent. I simply cannot wait to get my hands on one of these. I've written about the Spring Drive movement a lot, so yo
15400 vs SubC Date Size?
Question to those who own both.....how does the 15400 compare in actual 'wearable' size to the ceramic Submariner date? I know the SubC is 40mm, and the 15400 is 41mm, but I would think the Sub wears/looks larger due to the bezel and extended lugs? Any help would be great (and pictures even better)!
