Watches at Wimbledon: Who Wears What
As many watch aficionados and tennis fans know, some of the Wimbledon tournament’s biggest stars are also “brand ambassadors” for some watch brand or other. So which watch will we see on the wrist of the eventual men’s and ladies’ Wimbledon champs at the trophy presentation this year? We don’t know yet, but here’s a primer on which tennis players wear which timepieces.Swiss maestro Roger Federer, he of the record-breaking 17 Grand Slam titles, grew up in Basel, home to the world’s biggest watch fair. He’s also a discerning watch fan himself, and has been an ambassador for Rolex for several years, wearing a distinctive Rolex watch on many of the occasions he has hoisted a tournament-winning trophy. Lately, he has been partial to a platinum Cosmograph Daytona. Sinn Model 902 Limited Edition Watch
I think Audi is the brand to mostly thank for this new Sinn timepiece. Back in 2004 (ish) they worked with Sinn to create a couple of limited edition watches branded "Audi Design." Those watches (at least some of them) you can see below, and seem to be where this squareish, cushion case style came from. Now at the end of 2010, Sinn revisits this case aesthetic with the Model 902. A very interesting retro-futuristic watch with the heart of an aviator, and a designer body.At first I was a bit odded out by the case and dial style. It didn't remind me of the ruthless instrumental looks of Sinn watches that thematically resemble the cold gaze of a Doberman Pincher while on patrol. Rather, the Model 902 is what Hans straps on his wrist after pulling on a black turtleneck and affixing his perfectly round lensed glasses before reading over Teutonic existentialism. The era of idealist futurism from 1971 is where the design of this watch seems to have come from. Like the guy selling timeshares f

The Cellini-Tudor Enigma
So, I'm having coffee with a friend yesterday, a non WIS, and he inquired about Rolex; there was an add for a Cellini in a magazine on the table. It went something like this:Him: Isn't a Cellini a Rolex? Me: Yes, it is Him: Then... what's the difference? Me: Well, it's ... I guess... kind of like a Ford, there are Fiestas, and there are Lincolns, they are both made by Ford, but... well, a Lincoln is not a Ford... ... ... Him: Uhm.... and... a Tudor..... what's that? Me: Uhm... well, I guess a Tudor would be a basic model Rolex... I... uhm.. guess like the Fiesta is a basic Ford, but if the basic Ford had a different division name... like.... uhm Basic or something Him: But... Cellini and Tudor ARE Rolexes.... right? Me: Uhm... well, yes... but.. they are Cellinis and Tudors.... See? Him: Uhm... and... your watch, says: Rolex' on it... it's... a Rolex(?) Me: Yes Him: Uhm... but if you had a watch that said: Cellini' on it, ... it would also be a
