Cadillac & Rolex Over The Years: Cars Change, Watches Don't
I'll admit it. I love watches and I love cars. To me, they both represent a higher state of where design and machinery intersect. And being in the watch business for all of my life (I'm a 4th generation watchmaker, and founder of TimeZonewatches-dealer), I always seem to find a correlation between people who own fine luxury cars, and those who own fine luxury watches. Having said that, the world of watches is amusingly different than that of cars.I've always played a little game in my head as to what car corresponds to which watch - like those matching games you'd play in the newspaper. So match the car with the watchHere are a few of my matches: Panerai and BMW, Lange and Maybach, Patek and Mercedes, Jaeger and Lexus, IWC and Audi, and the quintessential American luxury car: Cadillac and Rolex. The luxury car and watch for the masses.I was brought up in the 1960's and 1970's, and I remember so vividly the anticipation of the new car design lineups each September when the car companies
My First Grail Watch: Roland G. Murphy Of RGM
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch". In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Roland G. Murphy (RGM): I am the man and watchmaker behind RGM Watch.ABTW: What was your first grail watch?RGM: It was a Patek 3970 back in the 1980s. I did get one used that needed work, I repaired it and sold it back in the early 90's.ABTW: Was there ever a time in your life when you could afford it?RGM: Yea, in the early 1990s.ABTW: What did you like so much about the watch?RGM: The complications and the classic look.ABTW: Did you ever get it?RGM: For a while, and then sold it.Editor's Note: Roland also referenced their older RGM 103R model, which he believes took the 3970 design and made it even grander.[Update: July 8, 2014 - While we value the quality of their product, in light of recent events, watches-dealer
New Jumbo arrived ... My second AP
Received this in the mail yesterday. LNIB originally purchased from an AP boutique so 5 year warranty 👍ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447354702.254508.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1447354715.856415.jpgLove the simplicity and elegance of it. And it pairs nicely with my first AP, a navy 26470. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1447355281.693870.jpg
New watch - Rolex DSSD!
Just came in this morning! I've always wanted to try one of these but I've been nervous about the size. I started looking into these more closely lately as I've wanted a bigger watch. I'm 6'4 and about 265lbs so I figured I could pull it off. My buddy had one for sale and I couldn't be more pleased with it. G serial from 2012 with a full set; everything including the original sales receipt. The original owner put it on a rubber B from the dealer (seriously, he specified it on the receipt), so the bracelet is mint. There's still stickers on the clasp. Here's some quick pics with my 1986 (birth year) 16660. Initial thoughts - way more comfortable than I thought it would be and I don't mind the chapter ring text like I thought I would. I think this will be a nice change of pace from the other 40mm Rolex watches in my collection. All in all, I'm extremely happy with this purchase.
