AP - Why all the Marketing Gimmicks ?
Many people would consider AP and Patek to be the top watch manufactures. Why does AP do so much limited editions and link with Athletes and events. Why can't they just let their watch stand by itself like Patek or Vacheron. APs are amazing watches and I fell all of the hype marketing lessens the brand. The other day I saw an interview with Theiry Stern and he said, we just want to make great watches with no gimmicks. It is true the Patek markets its company name, but it does not try to make each watch as a fashion or hyped out piece. AP seems more and more like Hublot to me these days. I am not referring to the style of the watch, but how they market themselves to brands such as Ferrari, Grand Prix, Swiss sailing team, athletes, etc.I don't want an athletes name on the back of my watch. I think it is clear why we don't see Royal oaks and Royal oak offshores selling at auction houses for increased prices. Collectors want timeless pieces that are not based solely on the hype of the da
Market Value For Navitimer II?
Hey all.Looking at a 10 year old full steel Navitimer II. Both boxes, all papers including warranty. Leather deployment strap. Never serviced. I haven't been able to find comparables on eBay completed auctions.Seller wants $3000, I offered $2000. Considering Breitling service is $550 plus tax, and the current leather strap is stained, and has loose stitching, I'm looking at another $300 for a new strap. Is my offer too low? Seller thinks so, but factoring in servicing, and new leather I think it's a fair offer.Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.
Omega boutique store
I checked out the Omega botique store, they have a great selection of all things Omega, and Omega only. The service was also very good. The price point on most Omegas seems like a steal compared to Rolex. Two watches stood out for me today, a new blackfaced moonwatch with a date, day and month wheel, and this second watch for 3,500 with the best looking dial I've seen in some time... Very tempting if you ask me...What do you think...?
Power reserve question on the 5131R.
Hi folks hope everyone is having a great weekend..Just wanted to ask a question with regards to power reserve on my 5131R caliber 240 HU. I noticed when I wind it initially 10-15 times and wear it for a few hours then put it down the next day it stops after around 18-24hrs. Now reading the manual it sais a fully wound watch will have a reserve of around 48hrs.Am I right in thinking that to fully wind the watch it has to be wound and worn for many hours to get a reserve of 48hrs or so?? Is it normal to wind it and wear for say 4-5 hours and not get anywhere near 48hrs power reserve?? Hope that all makes sense..

Please keep your eyes open for this.Ive had my Daytona Cosmograph stolen whilst on the tube in London this weekend.Serial Number: 532413D4Model: 116503Very distinctive scratch on the lower bezel at the 6 oclock mark, about 1cm in length between the 110-140 tachymeter scale.Has been reported to police, the Watch Register and some other used watch dealers.Ive been advised to register on such a site as this, in the hope it may get picked up if anyone does a google search for the serial number. With thanks,Chris
