Panerai Introduces Entry-Level Luminor 8 Days Watches with P.5000 Movement
Ever since the release of last year's Luminor Marina 8 Days (PAM 510) with the new in-house P.5000 movement, there has been talk of Panerai discontinuing its entry-level Luminor models. The PAM 510 is a doppelganger of the PAM 111, with the exception of the words 8 Days on the dial and the movement underneath, the two watches are practically identical. At this point, it is worth talking a bit about this new P. 5000 movement, which only debuted last year. First and foremost, this is a hand-wound movement that is comprised of 127 components and beats at 3Hz or 21,600bph. The movement, like most other Panerai in-house movements, is fairly large at 15? lignes, but this is necessary because, as you know, Panerai makes large watches. Most significantly, it boasts a power reserve of 8 days and this is achieved by having two barrels in series. Such a configuration allows longer, thinner springs to be used, giving it its long power reserve. This year, Panerai is releasing five new Luminor model
Patek Philippe Titanium 5004T For Only Watch 2013 (2,950,000 Euros)
For the?Only Watch 2013 charity auction, Patek Philippe has produced a one-of-a-kind version of the discontinued ref. 5004 in titanium called the 5004T. While Patek Philippe has produced titanium watches in the past, they are exceedingly rare and none that I can find have been produced as part of a series. That means that all titanium Patek Philippe watches so far have been piece unique models. The last that I know of is the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712T in titanium that was actually produced also for the Only Watch auction in 2007. It yielded an auction price of 525,000 Euros. The 5004T is a relatively small watch for men at 36.7mm wide. In my opinion Patek Philippe's follow-up model to the 5004 was the 5204 from 2012 (that I wrote about here). The 5204 contained the same mixtures of split second chronograph and perpetual calendar complications, and arrived in a 40mm wide 18k white gold case with beautiful oxidized black hands and hour numerals. It arrived just a year or so after Patek
an FYI regarding Ceramic
Good morning all!Just thought I'd drop some information on my fellow AP-enthusiast brethren. As of late, AP has been using ceramic as a case material more frequently (look at the SIHH...white ceramic Diver, white ceramic 44mm, and a gray 44mm) so I thought it'd be worth asking them how much a replacement case would cost should something happen to it. I got a quote back for $3580 for middle case and then you add labor (in the case of my Orange Diver). That's almost 3x as much as a case replacement for Forged Carbon (roughly $1100-1300).
No more asking inflated prices now
That bubble has well and truly burst about time too
Does it look like a DJ41 with the stick dial on the wrist at first glance?
