I ventured "off the reservation" ( i.e. Rolex) to get a vintage Chronograph...
I can't justify making the very substantial investment in a vintage a Rolex Chronograph so I ventured into the world of Breitling and just got this beauty back from my watchmaker after a complete overhaul and new factory Crystal installation. Jason will be happy to hear that I did just say No to polishing. This not so little (48mm) gem is a Breitling Chronomat ref. 0818 dating back to about 1969 with a very robust Venus cal. 178 under the hood. I love it and just had to share.
Chronometer running 24/7?
Hello all-About to buy an Omega Speedmaster, and have some questions in regards to the chronometer (large looking second hand that can stay off or be pushed on). Can I let it run all the time? I was thinking I'd just let it run while awake, but then push it off when I go to sleep. It will be a co-axial movement. Any thoughts or concerns on the matter would be appreciated. Thank you!
Submersible Owners Club!
I'm part of many over on the Rolex side haha figured I'd start a submersible one here!
My new 372 - with mandatory wrist shot ;)
It's been a while between posts here, and new watches (life got in the way ;)) - missed this great place!I'm back with a much needed new addition to the family that I picked up this week - my new friend the 372.I debated long and hard between this and the 312 - despite the fact I loved the 372, I was worried it may be too big on my wrist, but in the end I went with my gut and I think it worked out ok ;)I'm loving it's simple dial, domed plexiglass and retro looks. No doubt she's big, but I think somehow low profile (relatively speaking!), and very comfortable.Hope you enjoy my pics
Fake strap?
A few years ago when my uncle died I inherited a few bits and pieces including a 'Rolex' strap that was on an old Rotary watch. I can't post photos as I don't have enough posts to do that! I've done some Googling and similar straps seem to have more markings than mine. It's a stainless steel bracelet strap. The only markings on mine are the Rolex brand mark on the middle of the outside of the strap and 'Rolex Made In England Stainless Steel' on the reverse. There's also some kind of serial number on the lugs which looks like PD 874089 but it may be PO or P0 at the beginning. On the reverse of similar looking straps I've found online there are 2 larger Rolex brand marks. The fact it says 'made in England' seemed odd to me because anyone creating a fake would surely have it read 'Swiss Made'. Unless of course it's VERY OLD and was made prior to the company relocating to Geneva in 1919...which seems unlikely. Anyone any idea if it's just a piece of tat? :-) Thank you.
