Glashtte Original Offers New Senator Chronometer with Dark Blue Dial
The watch world’s current “Blue Period” shows no signs of waning at this year’s Baselworld, as brands continue to roll out timepieces with azure-colored dials and straps. Among the most notable new releases is a dark blue version of Glashtte Original’s Senator Chronometer, a model launched in 2009 that has become one of the Saxon brand’s cornerstones. The Glashtte Original Senator Chronometer, inspired by vintage marine instruments used in shipboard navigation, has earned official chronometer certification and hence, its reputation for timekeeping precision and reliability from an authorized testing institute, the German Calibration Service. (Swiss-made watches, unlike German-made watches such as this one, receive chronometer certificates from another certifying agency, the Contr?le Officiel Suisse des Chronomtres, or COSC.) Its dark blue dial new to this model but used in other recently released timepieces from G.O., such as the Sixties Pano
Our Look Inside The 2015 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair And The Industry Behind It
Returning to a place that is exciting, bold, and indeed still very new for one?is always a real eye-opener-in September 2014, I had my first opportunity to visit the Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair and as such, for the?first time, as well, to discover?its peerless host city. Exactly one year later, I?was eager to return and to see for myself, now with a more trained and critical eye, what had changed over the last 12 months. Because we are watches-dealer, I will save my remarks regarding the wonderful city of Hong Kong for the time when I launch my travel blog C but only after?I have grown three extra heads and pairs of hands to be able to see to all the watch-related stuff?that is of much higher priority. Without further ado, let's see what?the?unique C and massive! C 2015 Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair?had in store for us.The entry hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibiton Center C some 20,000 buyers, exhibitors and visitors have flocked through here during the five days of t
Recent Auction Results
Anyone follow the Sothebey's auction results in HK this morning? .sothebys/en/auctions/...es-hk0789.htmlSome interesting results and I thought the catalog was very well put together with something for everyone. There seems to be a definite thawing of some modern-era classics like the 3970 (with a P selling for $130k), the 5970 (with a P selling for $190k) and the 5070 (with a P selling for $175, a new record for a non-sealed 5070P). 5970G and R were flat however.Nautilus performed well as well of course with a blue 5711 1/a selling for $60k, which to me is unbelievable. Who buys this instead of a 5070J/G/R for a little more money? Two enamel worldtimers in the catalog also did fine-average I would say with a 5131J selling in the mid 90k range and a 5131G selling for just slightly above $100k. What caught your eye? Have a good day.
The stars alligned in Bangkok...
After two and a half months traveling in Shanghai, Singapore, Bangkok, with ten or so visits to Rolex shops, I'd only seen a few sports/professional models available. On the way to the gate at BKK the King Power Rolex Boutique came in to view. One more walk through a Rolex shop I thought. It looked like a fairly large selection in the shop, but pretty much the usual. On the way out the sales person looked at me and said they just got in a couple professional models. One was a Sea Dweller. At 363,100 baht it seemed a lower price than I would have expected. The wheels started spinning and pretty much had to go for it. I asked if there would be any tax and there was none. Whipped out the CSR visa and the rest is history. Airport shops might be a fairly good place to check as he said they don't keep any lists.
PCLs...... Arghhh
I know there are lots of posts about this, but wanted to share my pics and polish. Wore this one for a whole week.I have to say that I hate PCLs...... I gave it a light polish Sunday. I was careful to not get anywhere near the brushed stainless. So much better!I'll always keep this watch as it was my first Dayotna but I will never buy a watch with PCLs again!I think the platinum in my Everose Daytona is more scratch resistant.....
