Teenage Grandpa Watch Straps Review & Interview
They say that the first step in treating an addiction is admitting you're addicted, so here goes. I am addicted to watch straps. At any one time, I likely have roughly three watches in rotation but will constantly switch between 5-10 different straps. If a watch doesn't look perfect on its included bracelet, I will start hunting for that perfect strap, or three, and then I'll add a NATO style strap. Much like a new pair of shoes can add some punch to a good outfit, a strap is a great way to make a watch feel new again. While I cannot afford to be constantly buying watches, there is seldom a time that I am not impatiently awaiting a strap to be delivered in the mail. The internet has allowed for a rapid expansion in custom strap making by connecting end buyers with manufactures who make a small number of straps, often to a buyer's specific tastes. When I first got into this game, the de facto strap choice for a sport watch (without breaking the bank) was a Hirsch Liberty or possibly a Di
Classic chronos... which would you choose?
I want to get a traditional looking chrono, bi-compax, but with more modern dimensions. At this point, I am between the Girard Perregaux 1966 Chrono, or the AP Jules Audemars Gstaad Classic. The GP is 42mm and the AP 41mm, so not much difference there. Both have in-house movements, with an add-on chrono module, so again, both are similar there. Besides the looks of the watch, it comes down to what you get for your money. For about the same price, I can get the Girard Perregaux in 18K gold, but besides the brand not being up there with AP, the movement is not as nicely finished as the AP. The AP on the other hand is Titanium (vs 18K), but has a nicer (better?) movement ticking inside. This particular GP has been discontinued, just like the AP, and both can be had at a very good discount BNIB. Which would you choose?
Planet Ocean - ceramic bezel
My local AD was unable to give a precise UK retail price for the new 42mm ceramic bezel Planet Ocean. He stated that until they receive it in early September they could not say. He did estimate it would retail at approximately ?4,000.Can anyone confirm the price and date it should be available in the UK?Also, once this new model is available will Omega stop producing the 2500 co-axial model which currently retails for ?2650?Thanks in advance.
Quit while you're ahead...
Last week I got a 214270 Explorer and love it. After going through many watches, including the MKI short hand version, I feel I have finally landed on the watch that best suits me. I sold a few others and have always loved 36mm Datejusts, but never had the right one for me. I found a nice one, a silver tuxedo 116200 at Authenticwatches. They list many watches that they don't have but I thought they can come through on those indicated as in stock. I made the purchase. I called to double confirm. They specify overnight shipping. Today I am wondering where the tracking number is, and I call them; they put me on hold and say there was a mixup, the watch had just been sold before I ordered it, and they were hoping to get another one tomorrow. I cancelled, doubt they'll be able to do that.I was upset. But in the end, I think they did me a favor. I love the 214270 and don't want or need more confusion, or anything to interfere with my enjoyment of this watch. The DJ was similar to the one I a
