IWC and Parmigiani Go To The Oscars
Top Hollywood celebrities wore IWCs as they made their way down the famous red carpet Sunday night. Taylor Lautner wore the Portuguese Chrono Automatic, Quentin Tarantino wore the Big Pilot, and Robin Williams wore the Pilot's Mark XVI. Parmigiani Fleurier once again co-sponsored Sony Pictures Classics' pre-Oscar celebration in Beverly Hills on Saturday night. Guests included Best Actress Nominee Carey Mulligan for “An Education” along with Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer. Parmigiani is an active partner of Sony Pictures Classics events; this is the third Oscar event Parmigiani has sponsored for the independent film company. On The Block: Three Modern (But Out Of Production) Watches To Consider From Next Week's Antiquorum New York Sale
I am often asked if there are any watches being made today that I would deem collectible in the long run. While the every day answer would be, “no, at least not in the same way that vintage watches are collectible” there are some exceptions. We are in something of a renaissance of watchmaking, with new materials abound, millions of dollars in R&D budgets, amazing technology, and more appetite for mechanical timepieces than ever before. So there are bound to be some watches that we'll look back at and say, "Yup, that was special."Here are three modern watches, all made within the last four years, that I genuinely believe have a chance at being collectible down the road, all for sale in Antiquorum’s sale next week. Picked up a new watch today!
Hey everyone, just picked up a new watch this afternoon and thought I would share the joy :) I've been drooling over this one for a while now, and due to losing sleep because of my drooling I decided to just go for it. I own a fair number of sports watches now, so I figured it's time to get a dress watch--especially since my TT Date is in for servicing. As I mentioned in another post, the three watches that I planned on buying this year are: Omega Deville Hour Vision, SS Daytona, and a PAM 233. So one down and 2 to go :)DeVille Hour VisionRose Gold, Leather Strap41mm Case DiameterTransparent Back and SidesCal. 8501 (Omega's first completely in-house caliber in decades)
Panerai service question
I have a PAM164 since 2004. Need some opinion on service, should I get it done or not. I don't wear the watch too often, apparently no issues with the watch. I am not sure how accurate it is or if the power reserve has gone down. Was quoted close to $600, any parts replacement if need would be additional. Is it worth it or wait till it stops, also any recommendation in Bay area CA for service.Cheers
