New Watch: Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve
Vacheron Constantin's Collection Excellence Platine welcomes a new model for those who appreciate classically understated timepieces. The limited edition Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve embodies the finest horological traditions in every sense.Vacheron Constantin created its first platinum timepiece in 1820, and has since fashioned its finest timepieces from this precious metal, which is 95% pure, compared with 75% purity for 18k gold.As a new member of the Collection Excellence Platine, the Traditionnelle Day-Date and Power Reserve offers much more than simply a platinum case. The dial too is crafted from the precious metal, as evidenced by the discreet PT950 inscription between 4 and 5 o'clock. The dial provides a central display of the hours, minutes and seconds, as well as pointer-type indications of the power reserve, the date and the day of the week. The dark blue alligator strap is hand-sewn with a unique thread made from silk combined with a fine strand of 950 platin
What Makes The Watch Collector Tick
I purchased my first real watch when I was 22 years old. It was a Rolex Submariner bought with money I won in Las Vegas from a longer-than-usual run at the craps table. Little did I know, that would be the start of a passion (watches, not gambling) that now spans close to thirty years. During this journey, I have added and subtracted multiple timepieces to and from my watch box, as well as encountered many other ardent watch lovers, some with truly amazing collections. Truth is, watch collectors are a peculiar group, and those who do not suffer from the "watch bug" have a difficult time understanding our perplexing and often expensive addiction. While some even refer to watch collecting as an affliction, at the heart of it is the need to satisfy some of the most essential human conditions: the thirst for knowledge, the hunger for love, and the oft desire to be transported to a different place and, well, a different time.In order to delve deeper into the psyche of a serious collector, I
Concord Watches Ride The Hype Machine
Something positive first. I give credit to Concord, or whoever Concord is hiring for being creative. Though I question the effectiveness of it all. I have to first pull myself aside and consider my own position in the watch world. Someone in the know, someone who sees most of what comes out. So consider this a biased opinion by someone who might know what they are talking about. A bit of history - Concord is owned by the Movado group, and couple of years ago it was likely decided that because the brand was not pulling its weight, they would attempt to revitalize the brand into a different kind of manly high end watch. For this they repositioned the brand as a niche product maker and hired a new president in 2006, Vincent Perriard. Since then Concord has released one watch, the C1 - In a bunch of different flavors.I've never been quiet about the fact that I don't like the design of the Concord C1. I've also been pretty straight forward on how I feel about their new QuantumGravity watch

new 116710ln random serial; green AND blue lume?
Hello,This past Sunday, I purchased a new 116710ln with a random serial at a well known AD in Chicago. This was my first, new Rolex purchase. That night, I torched the dial expecting to see green lume all around. At first, I caught a glimpse of blue. Feeling excited, I glanced back at the dial and noticed that all of the hands were glowing green. But, the hour indices were clearly glowing blue. Now, I thought all GMT lume shifted to blue in ~2012-14, not just the hour indices. Is this normal?Tom
