Weekend Report: The Opera House Cup In Nantucket With Panerai
This year marked the 10th year of Panerai's sponsorship of the 43rd annual Opera House Cup Regatta in Nantucket. The Opera House Cup Regatta is an annual race for classic wooden yachts that takes place in the waters off Nantucket; it gets its name from the Opera House Restaurant, whose owner, Gwen Gaillard, came up with the idea for the regatta in 1973, after hearing local sailors lament the absence of a regatta for classic wooden-hull yachts. In the subsequent four decades it's evolved to become one of the most spectacular exhibitions of sailing yachts in the world; I had the opportunity to go out and watch the regatta with Panerai and it was truly a sight to behold (see pictures below). This year's regatta featured 55 registered yachts that participated in the Cup. Among the boats were a number of classic yachts of all different sizes. The winner of this year's Opera House Cup was Bapple, a 26' from Alerion, whose skipper, Bruce Failing, took home the p

Is a sleeper. An elegant, oh so wearable watch...and a fair value, too...Sensible proportions...dressy but still adventurous...The more I wear it, the more I like it.And that, I think, is the mark of a watch that's a pleasure to own.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

It was very clear. He was wearing a B1 in the NSX commercial.
Patience Pays Off
With the looming price increase, I had been talking to my (Fr. John's) AD about another watch, a 3570, which is the only new Omega that has been calling to me for the past few years. One thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger has been some reported QC issues with the new productions, so I had been waiting around patiently for a nice pre-loved one, when this beauty happened along: a mint 1974 cal 861, with the original bracelet, provenance from the Omega archives, and purring from a fresh overhaul by Shane Ede, watchmaker to Chuck Maddox himself. Sometimes the stars just align!
The aura of vintage and the curiosity of modern
My 5513 is my first vintage Rolex and perhaps among my favorite watches ever but I will be the first to admit, I am scared to use it as a daily wearer as its unpolished and perfect IMO. My solution was to get a 14060 and so I did, but alas, it just doesn't have the same good looks or feel and so I am on the fence about letting it go, allow me to explain; My conclusion, is that IMO if you are getting a non super case Submariner, it should be a 5513, 1680, but if you are going modern, IMO the case, lugs and bracelet of a 114060 is superior to that of the 14060 or 16610. thoughts on my above statement?
