Bulova Accutron Watch Ad Pitch Opens MAD MEN Season 7
Season 7 (the final season) of the television show MAD MEN debuted tonight with the reading of a pitch for the Accutron wrist watch. It was only a matter of time before the subject of watch advertising came up in the series and there is perhaps no better example than the original Bulova Accutron. As the original electronic tuning fork watch, it offered a unique upgrade over mechanical watches but existed in a pre-quartz movement age. The pitch, as described in a monologue in the opening scene of season 7 episode 1 titled "Time Zones," is perhaps one of the best watch advertisements of all time.It was in the year 1960 that Bulova unveiled the Accutron range of watches to the public. The most famous model was the Spaceview, which was actually an accidental design never intended for sale. We discussed the Accutron Spaceview watches originally here back in 2008, early in the history of watches-dealer. Turning fork watches were among the first electronic timepieces and used a vibrating tuni
Hands-On: The Jaquet Droz Montre De Poche Email Ivoire, A Pocket Watch With A Past
La Montre de Poche Email Ivoire means, more or less, "Pocket Watch with Ivory Enamel," and of all the timepieces Jaquet Droz makes, this is perhaps the most traditional in both appearance and construction. It's a pocket watch whose design is based on the Grande Seconde pocket watch created by Pierre Jacquet-Droz in around 1790, and the movement inside is as much a part of the fascination of this watch as the design. 1 OF 8 2 OF 8 Pocket watches are indisputably archaic, but they have a charm that no wristwatch can claim to have. As you probably know, the wristwatch is a relative newcomer in horology. The very first watches evolved from portable table clocks, sometime around the early 16th century, and in fact, they weren't pocket watches at all, technically speaking, because people weren't wearing clothes with pockets in the 1500s. Portable watches would have been worn on a ribbon or chain around the neck, or carried in a pouch attached to one's belt. As the early
My trio
Hi fellow TRF members,It has been quite a while since my last post here. Was busy on everything but on the day before the Labour Holiday, I would like to share with you my trio. They are all in black dial and stainless steel which I acquired in last year. Black is my favourite colour. I am hoping that I can add one more into my collection this year to make it a quartet!Cheers
looking for images of Nautilus case...opened?
Has anyone seen any images of the Nautilus case opened?I'm curious to see the sealing process, design and function of the case. I have looked through the web but couldn't find anything? So if you have some images or some links to same, please share them here. Thanks.
Well that was close, my Sub fell off!
So last night I'm at an award banquet for my wife, I tend to shake my wrist back and forth every once in a while, mainly to shift the watch a little bit, when I did, it got really loose and came apart! A pin came undone, luckily my arm was resting on my leg and the watch didn't fall to the ground and I was able to find the pin.Totally my fault as this was a pin I removed to size the bracelet, I must not have tightened it enough. Do you guys use a touch of blue loctite on your pins or just check them occasionally? So thankful it didn't fall off while walking through a parking lot or when hanging my arm out the window when I drive! Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket!
