TAG Heuer Reveals Art of Watchmaking Design Competition Winners
TAG Heuer and Parsons The New School for Design have unveiled the winners of the Art of Watchmaking, a 10-week competition that challenged eight teams of Parsons product design students to reinterpret TAG Heuer’s classic Monaco chronograph. During the review, each of the student teams showcased three concepts, and discussed their inspiration, target consumer and design philosophy. Ideas ranged from a Monaco with a rotating case to designs inspired by the New York City transportation system.First-place honors went to the team of Yong Yi Lee, Yoav Menachem and Amit Ran, whose designs included numbers to appeal to collectors.Second-place honors went to the team of Enrique Diaz Rato de Zabala, Michelle Organ and You Jin Sung, whose designs included a black ceramic timepiece with colorful accents.Third-place went to the team of Yusuke Sekiguchi, Christopher Beatty and Helen Kim, whose designs included a piece with naturally grown crystals in its dial. Each member of the three teams w
Christie’s 2010 Watch Sales Highest Ever at $91 Million
Christie's wrapped up a record-breaking year for fine timepieces, realizing $91.2 million in total sales C the highest annual total ever for the the global auction house. Patek Philippe dominated the results, capturing each of the year’s top 10 positions for wristwatch sales. In all, five Pateks sold for more than $1 million apiece. Look inside for images of the top sellers, and a list of Christie’s Top 10 for 2010. Christie’s achieved more world records in 2010 than any other auction house, and every sale saw a sell-through rate of more than 90 percent by value. The top watch of the year was a unique Patek Philippe ref. 1527 perpetual calendar chronograph manufactured in 1943 that achieved a record $5.7 million at Christie's Geneva sale.A Patek Philippe ref. 2523 “world time” manufactured in 1953 finished in second position. This is the larger 35.5mm version of the reference, and only 14 examples are known to have come to auction. This piece brought $2.7
Chopard L.U.C Louis Ulysse Tribute Convertible Watch
The idea of taking a wrist watch and transforming it into a pocket is less common than the other way around. Having a piece that can go back and forth between wrist watch and pocket watch is much rarer still. Sure it is a novelty, but I think it is one that Chopard executes rather nicely in the case of their new L.U.C Louis Ulysse watch. L.U.C (I am just going to write LUC for brevity) labeled watches in the Chopard line as those that have their in-house made movements. At least this is my understanding. LUC might even stand for Louis Ulysse Chopard, not 100% clear on this. Well nevertheless, this piece is a direct tribute to the man.The watch begins with a new manually wound pocket watch movement. The movement design is actually apparently further intended to be used by watch making students at the Geneva Watchmaking school. The idea is that for the student's final projects, they will make one of these movement. Nothing created by mere students has been fitted into any of the 150 piec
47 mm watch Appreciation "Show Yours"
I just wanted to start a thread for the 47 mm watch, because it sometimes get a bad wrap as being a (clock watch). Well, I for one love the size and I just want to see others.
When Did Rolex Stop Supplying Black Bay Rose Blue Bezels to ADs?
EDIT: I meant blue bezel, not blue dialIf an AD has a new Black Bay 79220B in its cases, whats the least amount of time its been there, i.e., when was Rolex last sending that model to ADs?I'm wondering how long its been sitting in the AD case and how badly the AD wants to get it out of their cases so they can invest the money into other stock.
