Rare Universal Geneve Super Diver Watch From When Quartz Was Cool
Back in the 1980's and through the mid 1990's, it was all about luxury quartz watches. Brands would proudly adorn the "Quartz" identifier on their watches. At the time, Quartz was seen as a successor to mechanical watches for its obvious advantages in terms of accuracy, cost, and simplicity. Well, most of us know what happened in the late 90's due to the efforts of a few key luxury brands, and the resurgence of the mechanical watch, buts lets focus on a time before that happened. Now look at this wonderful examples of a Swiss Quartz watch, from what is likely the heyday of the Quartz watch movement. The Universal Geneve Super Diver is a Rolex Submariner homage watch, with it's own little style twist. Most notable, are the raised gold-plated sections of the bezel that add that 'golden class' the 80's so very much needed! They aren't very functional, but they look nice.It is hard to tell the exact age of this watch is. I would place in the late 1970s to the mid 1980s. I base this on the s
Hands-On: The Girard-Perregaux Minute Repeater Tourbillon With Gold Bridges
After Girard-Perregaux took home the Aiguille d’Or at the 2013 GPHG with its Constant Force Escapement piece, it claimed a staggering level of haute horology. That’s why a tourbillon minute repeater turned inside out for your viewing pleasure is really no surprise from the manufacture. We were big fans of the enamel dial 1966 Minute Repeater a couple of years ago, and, if aiming to surpass that was the goal, bringing the back to the front and adding a tourbillon is certainly a way to do it. 1 OF 5 The Tourbillon Minute Repeater is rather stunning to behold. The open-worked concept displays the striking mechanism’s components up front. There is no wrist or skin or case confining the chimes, only a layer of sapphire crystal. The 18k gold case itself is shaped, front and back, as an acoustic amplifier. Notice that the hammers are mounted on jewels to reduce friction, a means to increase both the speed of the strikes as well as the force of their impact. The
AP boutique in Beijing china
Was in Beijing China last week and visited the AP boutique. They have all the new pieces available. One thing I found out is that they offer 8 years warranty and with 9% VAT refund, seems like pretty good deal. Also, there used to be 3-4 ADs in the city, and they were all closed. I guess AP has begun to aggressively implementing their new strategy of closing down ADs and opening their own boutiques.
Any 36501 experts please?
Hello everyone. Very difficult to find any information on this amazing piece. Any idea on production numbers? Secondary market pricing? Any come up at auction? Sought after and collectible or too specialised for most collectors?Any insights appreciated. Thanks.
Got me thinking..
Should I just sell the BLNR and keep the SkyD?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
