Today, we?are giving you our Top 10 Editor's Choice Watch Articles Of 2014, a selection of posts which have fired up heated discussions among?members of our audience, have amazed?watch enthusiasts around the globe, and?have provided previously unseen and unavailable?insight and analysis. Let us now discover ten of?these articles which we thoroughly enjoyed making. 1.?How One Guy Made A Shockingly Good Urwerk UR-202 Watch HomageIn this article, we meet Karel, a young engineering student from San Ramon, California. Fueled by his love for horology and the more unusual timepieces of the 21st century, he quickly grew fond of Urwerk and their unique ways of displaying time. In fact, he liked them so much, that he set out to harness his studies as an engineering student and design and craft his very own homage to his favo
Creating The Horological Machine: An Interview With MB&F Founder Max Bsser Part 1
Contributed by David BredanThe last 10-15 years have arguably been the most entertaining, most enthralling in the history of watch making. These years saw the rise of an immense amount of superbly gifted watch makers and brands C like Urwerk, HYT, DeBethune or Antoine Martin, just to name a few C and they have never failed to amaze, or at least amuse watch lovers; while often triggering heated debates amongst them. These brands are the ones who have the real power to entertain any watch lover regardless the level of financial or academic involvement by?expressing their oftentimes shocking, previously unimaginable twists on watch making.Maximilian Bsser is undoubtedly one of the key players in making all this possible by overwhelming retrograde tastes and attitudes towards high-end watch making: first by starting the Opus line at Harry Winston, bringing the staggering and shockingly fresh works of often less publicly known watch makers to the public; and then by creating Machines as da
Pre-Baselworld 2014: Introducing The Hublot Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono, The Official Watch Of The 2014 World Cup
In the 1970s there were special chronographs called "Soccer Timers" with markings on the registers for counting the 45 minute halves of a match. Hublot has taken things much further here with the Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono, building a mechanism from the ground up that is optimized for this function. The two retrograde hands clock the seconds and minutes on a specially designed scale and a window at the center of the dial shows which half is being timed. The main timekeeping is separated in a smaller dial at 6 o'clock, so you can wear the watch off the pitch.??The foundation of the?Big Bang Unico Bi-Retrograde Chrono is the new in-house movement. The caliber HUB1260 was built using the same dual-coupling column-wheel technology as the UNICO caliber, but with the marked difference of having two center-mounted retrograde hands for the chronograph mechanism. This 385-part movement is the first bi-retrograde caliber from Hublot and is patent-pending. 2 OF 3 You're pro
Chronomat B01 - ownership experience?
Hi all -I am thinking of purchasing a B01 in rose gold and wanted to know what your thoughts are about the watch. I currently own a chronomat evolution and find it very versatile. I like the indicator hands on the evolution more than on the B01 - however the in-house movement is appealing. If there was a choice between a gold evolution and a gold B01 - which would be a better purchase?Pic of my Breitling ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362488509.968437.jpg
Is the grass greener?
Hi All,I have a GMT (116710) and a Speedmaster tintin, I was interested in adding a Panerai to see what it is like on that side of the fence (there is my only tie in to my post title, ha). I really like the 177 and 564, I understand the differences between each and really think I would be equally happy with either, though I have not seen a brown dial in person. I have actually never even tried on a Panerai, so I have to do that first. The aspects I really like about both models are the brushed case/bezel, sandwich dial, seconds hand and manual wind. Titanium is a great feature as well, but not an absolute requirement.Does anyone have any recommendations for similarly spec'd steel option in the Luminor Marina, 44mm spectrum? I also like domed crystals, if there were an option that had it all. It is tough to discern differences between all of the Panerai models! Thanks!
