Bring a Loupe: A Gorgeous Rolex GMT, A Rare Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar, A Rolex Tru-Beat Reference 6556, And More
This week will be dedicated to watches with complications. We start big with the Patek Philippe reference 1526, the first perpetual calendar produced in series, mostly during the 1940s. We will also look at a Rolex GMT with a killer bezel, as well as a Rolex Tru-Beat with a lovely ticking second hand. Finally, we've got a couple of examples of everyone's favorit complication, the chronograph, from a Heuer Carrera to a blue Hamilton Chrono-Matic. This is your Bring A Loupe for April 8, 2016. A Patek Philippe Reference 1526 C A Legendary Perpetual Calendar With Moon Phase 1 OF 9 The 1526 is one of Patek Philippe's most mythical references – it's the first perpetual calendar wristwatch ever produced in series, from 1941 to 1952. Throughout those 11 years, only 210 examples were produced and most had yellow-gold cases. So finding a rose-gold example is always pretty exciting, especially one in this condition. Adventuring with the Diver
The Diver's popularity seems to keep growing here on the forum. I got mine in late April as my second AP (just three weeks after my Panda came into my life). It's a great go-anywhere kind of watch! After seeing Submarino's adventures I thought id share a trip I took with mine.I went to the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. Beautiful spot to relax and find a different kind of island experience. It's accessible only by ferry or plane. I took a De Havilland Seaplane! Simplicity Perfected...Breitling Transocean!
Well here she in the newest member of my Breitling family, a Breitling Transocean (A10360) just recently purchased. I LOVE this watch! I'It is simple and can be dressed up or down. The dial goes from a Cream color to Silver color depending on the lighting. And nothing beats a Breitling Gator strap for looks and comfort. I've always had my eye on this model and the stars aligned to make this opportunity become a reality. The Transocean fits perfectly into my collection and will be worn often. I'm so glad I did not hesitate on this one!
Incoming....5167
Just picked it up today from local AD. Got a slight discount. It will be a daily watch, how easily does the clasp scratch? I work on a mac and I'm afraid the keyboard part were I rest my hand will scratch against it. PP_5167A_1.jpgPP_5167A_2.jpgPP_5167A_3.jpg
Special PP AD events
I know there are special events throughout the year sponsored by an AD or by Patek with Thierry Stern in attendance. Besides special exhibits like the Munich exhibition or the Grand Complications exhibition, etc, what are these events like? Is it just cocktail and dinner? I received an invite to an event next month which I am sure many members here in the US also received. I am trying to see if it is worth my time since they got buried with snow the past few days and who knows what it'll be like next month with the crazy winter weather.
