Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends 9 May, 2014
In the month of May, we pay a visit to Chopard's workshops and also check out their new L.U.C Tourbillon Qualite Fleurier Watch, which uses Fairmined gold. Speaking of new watches, we also check out Patek Philippe's awesome new Reference 5990/1A Nautilus watch; Seiko's fast-beating Hi-Beat 36,000 GMT watch; and the most affordable Legacy Machine from MB&F yet. That's not all, we also examine the history of dive watch; analyze the second-hand watch mark; and attempt to engrave the caseback of Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso.1. The History Of Dive WatchesThe dive watch as we know it is one of the most popular types of watches today. Rolex's Submariner, Blancpain's Fifty Fathoms, Panerai's Radiomir and Seiko's Monster are all examples of popular watches that are also bona fide dive watches. However, the history of the dive watch is an interesting one. One that was born out of necessityCbecause early watches were highly susceptible to humidity and dustCand then later led to greater things. In
Sotheby's To Auction One Of The World's Largest Swatch Collections, Including Prototypes
Watch enthusiasts are not limited to collecting only pricey marvels of modern engineering or exceedingly rare vintage specimens. In fact, we come in all breeds, including fans of the pop-culture-influenced watches produced by Swatch. If you fall into that category, you're in luck: this spring, Sotheby's Hong Kong will auction one of the world's largest collections of Swatch watches and ephemera from a private collector. Over 5,800 elements are included in the collection, which is to be offered as a superlot valued at $1.3 million. This behemoth assortment of watches, art, and other collectibles comes from a European collector, Paul Dunkel, who cites the widespread appeal of Swatch watches as the catalyst for building his collection over the past 25 years. While Mr. Dunkel's collection is extensive, this isn't the first time that a massive collection of Swatch products has gone on the block. In November of 2011, a similarly large collection of 4,370 Swatch production

Double Incoming - really pleased
Guys, I have been looking at the 5170 for quite some time. Love the manual wind, always been a sucker for Chronographs. Recently I found myself in need of a white metal dress watch. This was enough to push me over the edge, while I love the 5496 & 5396 and there exists other cool references, the chrono makes this so much superior IMO.While I was there I could help myself and had to pick up a little 'beater' too. Not sure it will last that long but I never see them, I know they are tough to find, not 5711 tough but tough nonetheless. Thought it would be a good pick up. I have a goal to get down to five watches, all watches I love. Adding to it makes it tougher but this purchase is truly over due. Now I need to keep finding ways to trim it down or do I just surrender. I seem to be loading up on Patek lately. Really want another AP RG 44. This is tough!Currently - 5170G, 5980R-001, 5711, 5167, RM11 Ti, GMT BLNR, IWC Le Petit Prince - blue dial. I have some nice pieces but how do you t
Opinions on Patek 5726
Hello,My first post here. I am saving up for my first Patek Nautilus for next year and will like to know what do you all think about the Patek 5726? I saw the timepiece in the Hour Glass Boutique in Singapore and it's selling for SGD53K including tax ( about USD43K ) for a Stainless steel model with leather strap and it looks gorgeous. I find the 5711 too plain looking while I have not much use for chrono and don't like the dual time. Is it worth paying a bit more for the full stainless steel bracelet? And should I go for a RG or WG version if exist? Here are some shots I took. I am also wondering if prices in Europe will be better. Thanks in advance!
